Giving notice during maternity leave

To all the ladies who have given notice to their employer while in maternity leave - how did you do it? Did you do it personally or did you just send a letter through the post?

I worked there for about 7 months before I left for maternity leave. I've wrote a letter out saying I'd like to give my notice in as of now and enjoyed my time working there. But reading it back I dont want it to look rude just doing it by letter :/ dont know what to do.

Your employer needs it in writing for legal reasons x

Where I work if you do not return to work for at least 6 months after maternity leave you have to pay back your maternity pay, not sure if this is just my company or a general thing. May have something to do with us having a maternity package x

You only need to pay back OMP if you get it unless you return for 13 weeks, returning for 6 months sounds a bit dodgy to me and I'm not sure it's legal......eek thats a long time. You don't have to repay SMP x

I think it may be due to me getting 3 months full pay & 3 months half pay as part of their package? Xxx

legally its still only 13 weeks i think. Its all i have to do anyway and I'm ona similar package.

I know there's a 13 week rule where an employer can enforce changes in a contract without the employees consent, I also thought this was reciprocal. Good job youre not quitting x

The money isn't an issue for me as I don't receive anything from them. I get Maternity Allowance only.
