I recently sent my GHDs back after they exploded on me

Has anyone else done this, or know anyone who has? I was just wondering how long I have to wait before i hear anything. I'm hoping for a shiney new pair, as these were 6 years old! Apparently, they have a lifetime garuantee.

Do they have a lifetime guarantee? I needn't worry about my own blowing up then

Hope you get a shiny new set :D

I didn't know this mine spectaculary explored last xmas, gave me the shock of my life. I thought they only had a 2 year warrenty so bought new. I wish I knew this before

I think they replace what they can, if not then a shiny new pair.... but only what I heard... dunno for sure so please don't quote me if I'm wrong :)

Im swaying towards a set now Im not sure  my hairdresser refuses to curl hair with chemicals she asks you to use another stylist - Anyway went in today to see what my options were to get a wave not a full perm and it seems nothing but a good curler will do and they use GHDS. Ive used a friends this week and Im so surprised of the difference/how easy it is and quick it is to straighten my hair in the morning rush on nursery days so bonus of 2 things all in one?

Im para about things blowing up fires etc so yer hmmmm

I love mine best buy I made in years

I was looking this up on the net last night. From what I can gether, the first wave of straighteners tended to do this and they were actually recalled. I obviously didn't know this, so went on using them regardless! I think the new generation are a lot better and don't have this problem! So you can curl away stress free :)

I had a pair of the MK1 GHD's - I'm going back 10 yrs easily. They didnt have a thermostat and just got hotter and hotter. VERY bad for your hair but they were such a revelation I didnt care! You barely threatened to turn them on and your hair was poker straight! I had to travel about 15 miles to a hairdresser who'd imported a few pairs from Germany before you could get them in the UK.....probably because the didnt meet safety standards! Needless to say they went BANG.....

The MK2 had a thermostat but the problem with those was the wire. It didnt have the little spinning round part to stop it getting twisted where the wire went into the irons.....eventually...BANG (insert puff of smoke here)

MK3 onwards have all been fine to my knowledge. Like any electrical item some go pop/bang but I think they have 'ironed' *ahem* all the known faults out now.

Just remember to turn the buggers off before you leave the house!

^^ mine turm themselves off if they have not been used for 30 minutes :)

^^ yes the newer ones do but not before they have burnt your mew bathroom floor :booboo:

They called me today and explained that the fault is repairable, but because the ones I had were nearly 7 years old, the faulty part is no longer manufactured
As such, they are now non repairable!!! So they have offered me a pair of the latest stylers at a reduced price - £90. They currently sell at £115. I will also get the heat resisant case and a couple of hair products thrown in.

So, not quite the result I wanted, but fair enough I suppose!!!

:( oh hon thats a pain

i've had my mark IV's now for a couple of years and i would highly recommend them, they turn themselves off after 30mins of not being used. x
