I am breastfeeding my 6 month old and me and my partner are having unprotected sex. I have heard this can be bad for new baby(if i get pregnant), i have been told i am unlikely to get pregnant while breastfeeding but i want to be careful. Any advice anyone????
Thank`s

Hiya
Welcome to the forum!
I have moved this topic to the "New Mummies-General Discussion" section, so more mom's will see it and hopefully answer your query :)

You can still get pregnant when breastfeeding. Even if you have not had a period you could have ovulated so if you don't want another baby you should use protection, if you do then carry on lol. I don't understand what you mean by something harming the baby, do you mean breastfeeding or having unprotected sex.

Found a very good artice here

I haven't seen anything anywhere about how this could harm an unborn baby.

Tell us about your 6 month old.... Boy or girl? :D

Thanks for your replies. We do want to get pregnant again but heard that some of the goodness from my milk would be needed by new baby. My little girl is called Ashli and i have a little boy Mikey nearly 3. I am 27 and still with my partner. So i dont need to keep going out buying pregnancy tests then? One of my health advisers told me that i was highly unlikely to get preg whilst breastfeeding? (not very good is it!) Thanks again 45 ur reply

It is unlikely yes, not impossible though.

The more formula and solids your 6 month old has, the more likely it will be for you to become pregnant.

Good luck :)

i got pregnant whilst breastfeeding and i was told i could continue and tandem feed once the baby was born. I didn't do this but shows its quite possible.

I don't understand how you can b/f throughout pregnancy and then feed the newborn and the older baby - surely your milk would slow right down to produce colostrum?

I want another ASAP, but am happy breastfeeding and don't want to give it up for a good while yet. I haven't had a period since Ella was born.
