So I've been getting really worried about having gestational diabetes.
I've been really thirsty which I've never been before in any of my pregnancies, and stupidly I googled it the first thing that come up was that it could be just gestational diabetes.
And now I'm freaking out, more so because I don't normally like sweet stuff but the last couple of weeks I've had a real sweet tooth.
I am over weight, I'm just waiting for the midwife to sign me off before I go back to slimming world..
Can u get this , this early on? Or am I being a right drama queen ?

GD is hormonal.

That said you do become more at risk of having it if you are overweight.

Have you been booked in for any kind of glucose test? I was scheduled the GTT as standard [at 28w] as my BMI at booking appointment was over 30 (just!!)

Mention it to your MW at your next appointment and see if they want to test you.

In the meantime there is no harm is eating healthy. Look at low GI foods, they are good for regulating blood sugar levels.

Ive just managed to eat my first decent meal tonight, Vegetables have been making me retch for over two weeks now haha!
Hopefully I can start to eat properly again.
I will ask the midwife at my booking appointment, Thats not until the 21st though. x

I had GD wasnt spotted until i was 37 weeks after a scan showed i had too much fluid. I had the GTT at 28 weeks and came back neg. This time had it at 15 weeks cos i had it last time.

I am not over weight but do have a really bad sweet tooth. I was sent for a GTT as my mum and her mum have type2 but I couldn't complete the test as I was sick just before I finished the drink.
The nurse who did the test said it probably didn't matter as I was low risk anyway due to being young and having a healthy BMI and to not bother trying to do it again if I felt I was just going to keep throwing it back up etc.
I went on with life as normal until I was around 32 weeks and had glucose in my urine sample. Midwife then wanted me to try the test again just to be sure. I decided then to make sure i cut out the sugar as much as possible (i have been eating a healthy balanced diet but cant resist chocolate and cakes etc), I'm almost 38 weeks now and my samples have all been fine since and i have not had to re do the test.
I would say just try to look after yourself as much as possible and avoid being around anything you cant resist. I haven't bought anything sweet for myself but hubby and my mum keep buying things and when its there i cant help myself. The occasional treat is obviously fine but try to avoid it most days.
I have read that even if you do have gestational diabetes you can manage it without medication as long as you eat well and exercise regularly etc, which i know is easier said than done when pregnant haha :)

My family has a history of type 2 and so last time I was sent for the standard GTT at 28 weeks that came back clear. Baby was then measuring big so they sent me for another at 38 weeks which was also clear. My little boy was born at 7lbs 1oz so not big at all. I just put on a LOT of weight. :(

I've got to have another GTT at 28 weeks this time too.

I reckon with the amount of GTTs they are throwing at me, you could just ask for one and they'll do it... in fact have mine. :( These tests were literally the worst bits of my last pregnancy with my needle phobia.
