Gestational Diabetes Testing

Hi,
I'm new to this, and in a bit of a panic!
I have the GD blood test on Monday at 9am. I know it's fasting, but I have no idea when I'm not allowed to eat/drink from? Anyone have any idea?
I phoned the hospital and they said I have to phone back on Monday and that I had made it up that I never got a leaflet on it?
Any help ASAP would be great!

I had to fast from 12 the night before and my first blood test was at 7.45 hun. So i think if you make your evening meal the last you eat i'm sure you will be fine x Hello and welcome xx How far along are u?

i didnt do mine :S decided not to after hearing stories of people fainting and feeling horrid all day and stuff
my little man gets pretty irate when i dont eat so i just feed him when he needs it!

basically they ask you to fast from 10pm the night before, just water basically
then they give you a blood test, give you a syrupy drink to drink, wait an hour and do another blood test
and then another one an hour after that

it all sounds rather uncomfortable and hungry making for me, but fair play for having it done!

Thanks for that. My blood tests at 9am on Monday, so from 9/10 night before should be ok? Food doesn't bother me, but I love juice!!
I'll be 27 weeks on Monday so thought I should post in here. How far gone along are you two? Have you had any swelling at all? With my 3yo I had no swelling, but my hands and feet have swelled quite a lot this week!! I can no longer see bones anywhere on my body!

i am 32 weeks today (woohoo) and have swollen a bit but it is pretty hot out there now, i wouldnt be suprised if you swelled up a bit more due to the heat in this weather!

i am pretty chubby already but havent noticed too much swelling! xxx

Thanks for that. With GD, do you know what it means? Like, I've heard of it and stuff, but don't actually know what it entails? Or are there any symptoms of it?
When I got pregnant I was just under 12 stone.... at nearly 27 weeks, I'm just over 15! I keep saying it to the midwives, but they never weigh me, just say, well you don't really look overweight so don't worry about it? But thats an extreme weight gain, with 3 mths to go!!!

hmmm i am not sure your weight gain has much to do with it, every time you go to the midwife they will test your wee and if its got glucose in it thats a good indication something is not quite right re sugar levels...

also if you are measuring large round the bump then it can be cause for concern but i shouldnt imagine you putting on a bit is much to do with it hun xx

I had this test on Friday. The leaflet they gave me said to eat a normal diet for three days beforehand and have nothing to eat or drink from 11pm the night before (you can have sips of plain water though).
My appointment was 8.30am. They prick the end of your finger for a spot of blood and put into a machine that gives you an initial reading. Then some bloods were taken and I was given a syrupy orange drink and told to wait for 2 hours before going back. You can't leave the waiting area so take a book, magazine or music or something. You then go back and another sample of blood is taken. After that you are free to go and results take around 3 working days...

Hope this helps hun. Another good idea is to take a butty and drink with you for once you have finished - especially with it being so warm. Good luck xx

I suppose this is too late seeing as youre having it tomorrow morning! Ive had 2 in different areas (moved halfway through pregnancy) and one said no food or drink (except water is allowed) after 9pm and the other said none after midnight, so Im guessing its not the end of the world if you end up eating after 9pm.

Good luck tomorrow. They send quite a lot of people for these tests so try not to panic
