For those of you who give this to your babies I thought I'd share something interesting with you.

Here at the hospital, they administer the Gaviscon BEFORE the feeds and always with a syringe and only mixed with 5mls of water not 15 or whatever it says on the packet.

It makes it a more pasty consistency which is taken easier by the baby.

I queried this as it is very different to what is advised on the packet and they said experience has shown them this is the most effective way.

The manufacturers advise to dilute it more as they don't want it to be too strong when administered but this is not considered to be a problem if given before a feed.

James has 2 sachets in 9oz of milk and takes the lot :-o!!!!! Lol xx

i only give it to alyssa when shes having a flare up as it makes her way too constipated otherwise. i also think since her reflux is only mild that if i just kept giving her the gaviscon then i wouldnt be able to tell when it had gone away if it did and so would be unnecessarily medicating my baby.
im sure that will come in handy for others tho lol. i hope the ranitadine helps tilly for you tor, id be devastated if alyssa had to be sedated but if it helps then its the best thing for her

oh blimey?!?! im currently giving HALF a sachet in every other feed which means hes not constipated and it seems to be treating the reflux so i may not need to change the way i do it....

I only give it for evening and night feeds as those are the times I can't keep Emily upright for long after her feed. I dilute one sachets in 120ml of formula.

Oh and he's never suffered from constipation with it either xxx
