freaking out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

was at my local maternity unit today to register for antenatal classes
i got there a little early so sat in the car for a little while.

then i heard a woman in labour. she was SCREAMING at the top of her lungs from the labour ward, the window was open so i could hear everything.

OH went white, and closed the car window and turned up the stereo!

but i am now quite frankly TERRIFIED!! and have been feeling sick with nerves since!

someone please snap me out of it i feel like crying!

it really was blood curdling! think my poor OH is as bad as me!

as every pregnancy is different so's every labour. i've heard so many different labour stories. try not to think of it its only a few hours of pain compared to a lifetime of happiness once lil ones here. now what im scared of is the teenage years lol x

Just remember hun, your body was MADE to do this, we have been perfectly designed for this important job millions of women have done it beofre you, and millions more will afterwards, you'll be fine!! - So what if you scream - good excuse to give the o/h a bit of well deserved abuse x

Dont worry hun, shes prob one of those women off something like One born every minute who throw themselves around the place, and turns out they are only 1cm dilated
You will be grand and will deal with it as best ye can

Oh bless you! I wouldn't like to hear it either, I stumbled across one born every minute once and dived for the control to turn it off! Like princess says, we are born to do it xxx

i was just about to start a thread similar!!! my friend gave birth to her daughter yesterday
and i was totally excited about my labour, until her sister txt me everynow and then keeping me upto date ...
texts like ''shes in so much pain'' ''shes knackered'' ''couple more hours''..
and its now all coming back to me from having Paige, im terrified xx

It can be a bit painful and I did scream when I gave birth to Thomas but to be honest, I think screaming is all part and parcel of the reaction you have to having to use your muscles so hard to push. I think most of the time it is a 'knee jerk' reaction to the intense feeling of the need to push rather than a reaction to the pain itself. And once you LO is out and in your arms, you'll forget what it even felt like

Take this from someone who had a 40 hour labour and didn't have any sleep for 3 days and I am LOOKING FORWARD to going through it again

No wonder you were scared. The same thing happened to me at the tour round the labour ward with my 1st.

Unfortunately lots of women do scream and its defo not an over-reaction, or any sort of dramatics involved (hate when ppl say that!) Everyone is different - one things for sure, when your in labour you wont care wether your screaming or not, you might not even remember untill your told.

I don't remember screaming (although hubby says I did) but I do remember developing a slightly 'foul mouth' and yelling at both the midwife and hubby! I felt so bad afterwards!

My best mate keeps saying oh ive heard labours just like a bad period pain..... It annoys me so much when she says it .... she hasnt had any kids!
