did you choose what formula you wanted and buy it before or does the hospital decide for you?? I can't remember but I thought it would be good to start getting some in.....

we had alrady bought somefarlys so we just asked the hosptal for that when Evie was born. We were told that out hosptial had supplies of the 4main brands:

cow&gate
sma
aptimal
farleys

so im sure if you get one of these the hospital will more than likely beable to supply you with them .

when i did my birthplan she asked me what i was gonna feed him (c&g) when i gave birth midwife just checked my notes and supplied me with milk

I got asked what I wanted use for a top up milk when my DD had drained me of colustrom within a few hours... I'd had the breastfeeding police on my back for nine months and didn't have a clue on what to use.. I used SMA because it supposedly didn't contain animal proteins in it, yet cow and gate did (can't really remember though)...

I know at 9 months when Tia got ill will meningitis, she developed an intolerance to lactose and I had to feed her on a mix of breast milk and SMA LF (Lactose Free)... which was really good because the soya based formulas made me wanna throw up

The hospital we stayed in only had C&G and SMA, so if you have a preference just ring the ward and check which milks they have

The hospital can not and do not decide what milk you have,only you and your baby do hunni.
I think most hospitals supply the four main brands.

Not sure what happened with Jonah, maybe they did ask and I just don't remember..
He had C&G, never heard about animal protien but didn't do any research, just went along with it. Anyone know anything else about that? What kind did you use? And is it ok to buy in advance?

Depends when you are due, just check the milks date. I bought milk in advance and use cow and gate but im not fussed about animal proteins as im not a vegetarian.

You choose the formula you want to use. Whilst I was in hospital I was breastfeeding but because Jake didn't take to it right away they gave me a bottle of SMA Gold to give him. They chose the milk as I wouldn't have known what to pick anyway but I heard another Mum asking for C&G so you must beable to choose. When I stopped breastfeeding at 8 weeks I decided to carry on using SMA as that is the formula my Mum told me she used with me and my brothers and sisters. I figured that it must be good as we all turned out ok.

I was planning on breast feeding but it didn't work out and my hospital only had sma gold..

We used that for a few weeks but it made Keeley very constipated
so i changed her onto Cow and gate
