Is it correct that you can't bulk buy formula cheap? My lo decided over the last few days she no longer wants the powder, only the ready made bottles. I've tried everything, cleaned the perfect prep.machine, changed the filter, tried another carton, made it by hand....nope. She can tell the difference! She's going to cost me a.fortune..

She's clearly got high standards! :) yeah, formula is basically a fixed priced product, even at cash and carries it is at most, a just a couple of pence cheaper..... What I do to try and bring the cost down is get as many vouchers/codes as I can for £10 off spend of £40 and just do a shop for formula only. Each supermarket tends to offer this stuff as part of it's loyalty schemes, and in addition I specifically signed up to Ocado just for the one off purchase of formula, but yep, it isn't cheap!

Have you tried giving her the powder formula at room temp rather than warmed? Xxx

Thanks hun

Tried everything yesterday and she's just not taking it anymore! Didn't try letting it cool right enough, will give that a go. How long do you have to leave it to.cool down roughly? She's thirteen weeks and it's never been a problem she just went off it for no reason. She's coughing and spluttering and crying when she takes first few sucks then I have to calm her down and she'll take a little more but only a few Oz when she's on eight now. I can't figure ot out.

What's the ocado deal? Be worth it as a one off if I buy masses of it at some discount. Three months till weening..thank god xxx

Ocado do loads of discounts for your first shop etc. Just google it and im sure loads will come up :)

Depending what milk but I'm stuck with hipp organic still.. Boots and tesco is about 14p dearer than Asda and morrisons.

Amazon has now gone up too. I do think there's a minimum they can't go below but they can price them a little higher per carton.

Why the minimum? Only other thing I can think of that has that is alcohol! Whats the thinking there? xx

They cant legally do deals on formula, stage 1 formula anyway. Just like they cant have promotions (buy 1 get 1 free etc) its partly to encourage more people to breastfeed and also to stop people changing brands because its got an offer on as then baby could get constipation etc. Its also why you don't see adverts for stage 1 formula (hence why the formula companies promote their follow on milks so much!)

Be careful with discount vouchers etc as legally shops are not allowed to offer discounts or offers on first formula. So £10 off when you spend £50 etc won't include first formula. It's the same with things like club card vouchers, boots points etc they cannot be used on formula.

The law is designed to avoid any sort of promotion on formula, to avoid advertising it as an alternative to breast feeding.

I've never had a problem with buying first formula this way and have done it in all of the main supermarkets; tesco, sainsbury's, waitrose, ocado and coop. Have also used my Tesco vouchers for this purpose. From what I understand, the t&cs for monetary value discount (e.g. £10 off) have not included any restrictions on formula. The law more applies to specific promotions, but I could be wrong and have just been lucky!

In terms of cooling a bottle, about a half hour at room temp should do it :) they do like to keep us on our toes! Xxx

That's daft isn't it, all the encouraging in.the world won't bring milk to my dried up boobs lol :D

Thanks Louise, will give that a bash, fingers crossed! Bit young to be a diva xx

I know in some countries they are not allowed to sell formula on the shop floor, it has to be sold behind the counter and specifically asked for (like buying cigarettes in the UK) as they can't been seen to be promoting formula feeding.....it's mental for the price though!

It says on the ocado Ts&Cs fpr voucher that formula is not included in the minimum spend. So if you need to spend £50 to use a £10 off voucher. You'll need to spend £50 on products other than formula. Ok if you're doing a big shop anyway.

Weird then, as I bought online eight boxes of Aptamil first formula and one bottle of premade to take my total over £80 to get my £20 off £80 spend! That is all I bought and it was Delivered right to my door too :)

Same at the others too :) xx

That's mental, hidden behind with all the other naughty stuff!

Try room temp milk, my Olly was the same. Wouldn't take it warm.
Even now with his cows milk, we have to pop it in the microwave for 30 secs and a good shake to take the chill off it

Xx

Brilliant will try that tonight. It didn't seem to bother her before I hope my machines not faulty, it doesn't feel any warmer but somethings not right. Will try room temp for tonight's feed and keep my fingers crossed!!x

Every voucher I've ever had for tescos says in the small print that they cannot be used on 0-6 months formula. And trust me I've also tried to redeem my club card and boots points against its with no success!

Should also say I don't use online shopping so no idea on that, but had always assumed it was the same due to legislation.
