hi guys.

what do you give your baby first, milk or soilds??

I tend to give Ky solids first because he complains when I take him off his milk if he's still hungry. He aslo fills up on milk and won't touch solids if I give him milk first.

He has milk after to wash down whatever he's had.
It may work well the other way round, but solids first works for us.

milk, solids, milk..... I would've thought. That what I've been doing on the occassions that I've fed Oscar solids.

I'm confused as I was always told to feed her solids about half an hour before she needs feeding but maybe its different because I'm breastfeeding on demand still :?

I give solids and then his bottle. He is on 5 bottlese a day (7am, 11am, 2pm, 7pm and 11pm) and replace the middle bottle with juice as he has 2 meals a day now. I always give solids first otherwise he fills up on milk, and there is more chance of food staying down if he has milk afterwards.

I give Jack his bottle first, then if he wants solids i give to him as extra.

Milk is more important at the mo than solids

i was told bottle first then solids at his age milk is more important if he is ready for solids and hungry he will take it after a bottle

i do solids milk but wen i first started him on solids i did milk solids :D

i give kacy solids then her milk later on maybe an hour later

I give soilds then milk, but lately hes been so hungry that he wont take his soilds, he wants his milk first, so i give him the soild after.

I just worry now tho that he will get thursty coz he has no milk to wash his food down with after

you can always give half the bottle layla then solids then offer the rest of the bottle. or offer him water?

I give ella milk then solids becuase the milk is moreimportant and becuase if she is hungry shed rather have the constant flow of milk rather than have to wait for her solids, as she gets older though she will have to learn that food doesnt come in constant stream. she has all her bottle then all her solids afterwards usually 3 icecubes or 3 teaspoonsof baby rice or cereal when dry

Max has his breakfast about 6.45 (porridge) then milk, then solid about 10.30 then milk about 1ish, then solid about 4.00 then milk about 7 then bed!!

Got told today by HV to carry on the way I've been doing it (solids then milk) but to offer juice only inbetween meals, and not substitute it for the third bottle as milk is more important (obviously). Damo still has a bit of juice throughout the day if I can get him to drink it as the milk he drinks makes his poo a bit solid. Damien tends to drink a lot of his milk even after solids so he isn't filling up on the wrong stuff. Other babies may be different though.

Rebecca has been weaned since 13 weeks  Yeah contoversial but i had to for my sanity and her well being! I was going off my head with her constant hunger (drinks a bottle, brings it up due to her reflux, then looks for more  ) I give her solids first followed by some milk, she usually only takes 2-3oz straight after, but then an hour or so later she takes a full bottle.

She is on breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cow & Gate powder stuff-yuk! Like Sami she still takes 5 bottles per day, as that's the most important source of nutrition for them under 6 months...

Becky is now 15 weeks and lovin' her food!!

thanks for all your replies,

i have figured out yesterday that if i start to feed Coby just before he is due, hes not really hungry so will take food better, before he was so hungry that he just wanted his milk right away.

so now its working better, he has his food and eats it nice, then drinks a 7oz bottle after :)

i havent got a clue what im doing :wall: lately i have been giving eva some milk then solid then the rest of her milk. she likes having cereal in the morning and sometimes i give her baby rice mixed with some veg or something at lunchtime and a little bit of solid at 5pm. she has been sick alot less with this than she normally is so i think it's agreeing with her.

think that is ok or should i cut one of the little meals out?
i always give her a bit less than it says on the rice etc

been giving her one bottle of hungrier baby milk before bed which was making her sleep better - she didnt drink it all last night though so didnt sleep very well.

in total she has 5-6 bottles a day and some solids 3 times a day. is this all wrong??

Probably a stupid question but give milk then solids is in case they don't have the milk? What if you have a piggy for a baby that will eat anything?

Here is my schedule (which we only started yesterday):

7am - 7oz's
8am - 2 spoonfuls of powdered baby rice (more when added with water)
10am-11am - 7 oz's
2pm-3pm - 7oz's
5pm - 1 cube of vegetable (currently carrot) - will increse this to 2 soon
6pm - 7 oz's
10pm - 7oz's

I always give Kai water after the solids so he isn't thirsty. Am I doing things totally wrong and should move the solids to before the milk?

to be honest, when it comes to feeding, i dont think there is a right or a wrong way of doing things.

I have come to learn this lately, it all depends on the baby and what he/she will eat, and it depends on teh parents as to what time is best for them etc.

Coby eats lots, a lot more than i have read in this thread which makes me think he is having to much, but then again on the other hand, hes not ill from it and seems to want more and more (altho i dont give it to him) so he can cope with the amount hes getting.

if i go on cube amounts (asumming you mean ice cube) then his feeds prob come to about 6 cubes. he eats all that twice a day, then has a 7oz bottle to follow and still looks for more sometimes.
