I bought a Fuji Finepix camera 7 months ago from my home shopping catalogue and now its broken so I want it repaired under warranty.

However, they said they cant unless I have proof of purchase but I dont have a receipt as it was bought through the catalogue, and as Im no longer a customer with that catalogue I cant get my hands on a statement which proves I bought the camera less than a year ago - the catalogue wont provide me with one

So basically I cant get it fixed even though I paid £400 for it and its still under warranty. They want £99.90 as thats the standard repair charge

Is there anything I can say or do to complain which might make them change their minds?

Its unfair that they wont do anything to help me after the amount I paid for the camera

have you got a statement showing the first time that you were charged for the camera. or if you know when you purchased the camera cant you ring the catalogue and ask them for a copy of that statement.

I used to get my statements online so I dont have a copy to hand, and I cant access my account online anymore as Im not a customer anymore. The catalogue wont provide me with a copy because of the same reason.

Looks like my cameras dead then :(

Get your bank statement from the time of when you purchased it, and find the transaction on that, thats all you need as proof of purchase.

If you paid off in instalments you can call the catalogue and ask for a copy of the statement with the purchase/ transaction on, and you are legally entitled to it! Even if they charge you a few quid for a copy statement its cheqper than paying the full repair bill! Tell them they have a legal obligation to provide you with the paperwork you need, as the purchases were within the last 12 months and therefore you require the information to claim on the items warranty.

Good Luck

Thanks for that, I'll ring them back and tell them that! :)
