I could really do with some help PLEASE

Im due to be induced on the 1st August 2007 due to baby been too big but it could be sooner if the antenatal clinic think its needed but for now they have defo give me a date for the 1st.

I been told to ring the labour ward in the morning at 8 oclock to see weather there are any bed available and if so i will be going in.

Apparently there is only 12 beds to that ward so if there isnt enough bed they will phone me back as soon as one becomes available .

Ive been told due to me having diabetes that im classed as urgent so therefore they will shuffle none urgent patients around.

Now when i spoke to my MW she explained the process .

First you will require vaginal prostin tablets/gel and if nothing as not worked within 6 hours of the first dose they will prescribe me with another.

If the first dose has worked they will then beable to break my waters.

Now i have a couple of questions to ask of which i forgot to ask the MW cause everything seemed to go soooooooo quick . :?

The first question is :

Did the first prostin tab/gel work or did you require another ?

How long did it take labour to start ?

And finally sorry to be a pain

Will my hubby be aloud to stay with me through out the whole induction or will he after go after visiting hours

THANKS GIRLS THINK I WOULD BE LOST WITHOUT YOU

I had three postyn tablets. After the first two didn't work only a doctor can prescribe a third which someone did after almost a day of me hanging around for it

I went in Wed at 8am and Stanley was born Sat 1.30pm. Only the last day was 'proper' labour though.

My OH went home the first couple of nights, he needed his sleep. They wouldn't have let him stay but as soon as I was on my way he never left my side.

Good Luck!

I had the pessery an it took 1 hour to start working and I only needed the one. My hubby was aloud to stay with me all day. If nothing had started by late at night though they told me he would have to go home. I had my pessery about 11am and was 10cm at 6pm.

i had two lots of gel, the first about 10 ish, and then one about 3 ish. my waters broke at 2am that night, and i had alice in my arms by 2pm ishothat day. but, 11 am they where talking about poping me on a drip to speed things along (which it turns out i didn;t need).

adam was allowed to stay with me up to 11pm, when they decided it was best for him to go home and come back in for 8 the following day. because he was a named birthing partner, there wasn't visiting hours for him as such.

Hiya

I had the gel about 10pm and then DH went home with a promise if anything happened they would call him, i had a nights sleep and then at 9am they put me on a drip and Willow was born at 1.40pm, once the drip was in labour started really quick, my waters had already gone so i can only assume they will break them for you if they haven't gone by the time your ready to push.

Good luck when your induced at least you know when it's definatly going to happen and in my experience it's no more painful than normal :D

Hi there, i was induced some 12 yrs ago now and so things might have changed....my mum stayed with me the whole time so your hubby should be fine
I was given the gel stuff it didn't work
Then they broke my waters...that increased the pain but i didn't dilate.....

So then they put me on the drip of oxytocin..... I warn you it is not pleasant...i wish you lots of luck and hope the gel stuff sets you off....

eat fresh pineapple that'll boost yer hormones.

My friend had gestational diabetes and had a 10lb 6oz baby with little help and she was tiny.....

And apparently my great grandmother has gest diabetes too and had a 13lb baby boy AT HOME (it was the highlands of Scotland) It was her first and went on to have six more crikey eh :rotfl:

I was induced at 38 weeks because I'd been having contractions since week 27.
At first they told me they were going to use a pessary.

When I got to hospital they decided that the drip would be better because it's easier to control. Once the pessary is in, it's in, with the drip they can increase the dose steadily.

Of course I'm in Switzerland, so maybe it's different, but it was FINE! They started me off really slowly and gradually increased the dose over several hours. I was able to move around and felt very in control.

Eating pineapple is supposed to help to ripen the cervix ( if you eat TONNES of it), it won't help with labour though I'm afraid.

i went in and the plan was to give me a tablet leave me till morning and give me another, only problem with that is that the first one did the damage, i had given birth and been moved by morning! so it didnt take very long at all for me! the only thing i didnt rate about being induced was the monitor, she tried to keep it on me while i was pushing, i was not amused....

Hi I went in to be induced as I was overdue. I went in at 15.30 on the Friday with my Mum and OH and was given the first pessary tablet about an hour later. Nothing much happened for quite a while and my Mum and OH had to leave at 8pm when visiting hours finished. I was having some irregular pains but My OH was told that if my labour progressed then they would phone him. I was then having regular contractions all night and was given codeine and paracetamol for the pain which did nothing so they gave me diamorpine by injection. My OH came back in at 10am the next morning and my Mum came in a bit later. I went down to the Delivery Suite at 14.30 when my contractions were getting even more painful. They then broke my waters and I had gas and air, diamorphine and an epidural (I think I might be a bit of wimp LOL). I gave birth at 20.52 that evening. After the labour they helped me wash and at about midnight they moved me to a ward and my OH had to go home then. I personally would have liked my OH with me the whole time but he wasn't allowed to stay.

I was induced at 39 weeks

I had one pessary and my waters broke 4 hours later so they didn't need to break my waters.

I was on the labour ward so they don't have visitng times as such ...I was due to be checked at m/n and told my hubby if i wasn't progressing he may aswell go home and get some sleep but as i had him by12.20 he stayed the whole time

Had my first prostin @ 9am Fri morning, few pains in back mainly...nothing bad tho. Examined at 4pm and waters went so they didnt know if to give me another as I was bleeding too....gave me t as I was only 2cm dilated. No further by 11pm so OH went home to get some sleep. Taken to labour ward @ 9am sat morning and on to drip...stayed on drip until 7pm when after my 10th internal (they coudnt reach my cervix) it was decided as I hadnt progressed past 2cm, I was taken for a c section which was great.

The girl in the next bed was given her first pessary same time as me, was contracting almost straight away and taken to labour ward a few hour later, and her her litle boy

Everyone is different, but its honestly nothing to worry about-the midwives are brillant and will help you with pain xxxx

Now i have a couple of questions to ask of which i forgot to ask the MW cause everything seemed to go soooooooo quick . :?

The first question is :

Did the first prostin tab/gel work or did you require another ?
They gave me 2mg gel on Wednesday afternoon
That started contractions but no dilating, and then the contractions died away again
They then gave me another 1mg gel on Thursday
same scenario - contractions which died away, and no dilating.
Then they gave me another 1mg gel on Friday
same thing
Then they gave me another 1mg gel on Saturday morning.

Saturday evening I was dilated JUST enough for them to break my waters

How long did it take labour to start ?
When they broke my waters on the Saturday evening, I was put straight on the drip and was in labour

And finally sorry to be a pain

Will my hubby be aloud to stay with me through out the whole induction or will he after go after visiting hours
My husband was allowed with me from first thing in the morning until last thing at night, every day whilst I was being induced. He had to go home at night though.

Once my waters were broken and I was put on the drip, he stayed with me all night. She was born at 8.35am Sunday morning. He was then allowed to stay with me all that day, and then sent home Sunday night.

He then came back on Monday morning and stayed with me until I was discharged Monday afternoon.

Did the first prostin tab/gel work or did you require another ?
I had one tablet and around 10am and it didn't start to work untill 7pm, they gave me another anyway though

How long did it take labour to start ?
To be honest I don't know, I didn't start getting contractions untill around 7pm and even then it was only prostin pains that I was getting, the MW checked me twice, once at 7pm & another at 10:30pm and I was 1 and half cm's both times, OH had to go home at 10:30pm and I had Harrison at 12:35am (2hrs later) (OH & My Mum made it 4mins before he was born)

Will my hubby be aloud to stay with me through out the whole induction or will he after go after visiting hours?
My OH & Mum were able to stay with me all day, my Mum went home at 8:30pm when visiting hours ended but OH stayed untill 10:30pm as I wanted him there whilst I had a nice bath! (Not that I enjoyed it with the contractions)

I had 2 Prostin tablets, one at 9pm, cant remember what time the next one was!

I made no progress with the tablets, but after 2 hours of waiting for a bed in the labour ward, I walked a lot and rotated my hips. On next exam I was 1cm dilated so MW was able to break my waters. It was ok, nothing to be scared of.

After a couple of hours I had an oxytocin drip put up. This brought the contractions on quick, but again nothing to be afraid of really. Not much you can do, and I really just wanted it over in the end.

Jude was born 12 hours after they started the drip.
:D

hi hun i was induced becus i lost my waters without knowing, i was 9 days late. i was induced at 10am and dint feel any pains until 12.30pm. went really quick after that tho and i was 10 cm dilated by 4.30pm and gave birth at 5.33pm. my mum stayed with me all day and so did OH. i gave birth just in time for visiting hours so my OH and dad could stay with her and meet her.

xxxx

I had gel at 8.30 pm.

Contractions started within an hour, I was 1cm dilated at 1am and would have delivered around 11am if I had been able to push her out!

I had a tablet at 6.45PM, contractions in my back every 30 seconds until I had him at 4.30PM the following day, had my waters broken at 11AM, tried pushing at 2PM until 3PM then had the C-Section at 4.30PM
