Wow ladies thanks ever so much for all your input in this thread!!

Vicar tried calling us today, and is ringing back tomorrow so going to make an appointment to see her when I speak to her on the phone.

Enquired about registry office today and thats costs £185, but the room can only hold 41 people and my family would take that space up alone!

The registrar also said that he can marry people at some licensed venues but that is in the region of £340...so by the sounds of it a church wedding is going to be the best bet!

My uncle plays the organ so im hoping he can do that to save us some pennies.

Next thing to think about will be the reception, rang up for a quote today for a hotel near us and they wanted £55 per person per head, well we are going to have approx 100 people (close family and friends) to the reception so that would be like £5,500 alone for that...er I dont think so!!

We want a tasteful do, but not too pricey, any other money saving tips would be much appreciated!

Cant believe we are finally booking it, we've been engaged for 3 years :rotfl:

We thought that too as i have alot of musical friends - but we were told that we would still have to pay a fee for our friend to play - something to do with music copy right!!

We got married in a church in June 2004 and it cost nothing for the church. We had to pay £20 to the lady that opens the church for the flowers etc to get in and £70 for the guy that played the organ.

We donated money to the church fund tho and the flowers were sorted into boquets and given to anyone from the village that was ill.

How come you didnt have to pay anything then? Didnt you have to pay to get your banns read and all that?

I dunno..... maybe it's different for the church of Scotland.... but thats all we had to pay!
