Hi everyone, sorry if this seems like a stupid question!

Obviously I'm avoiding alcohol and the normal foods that you can't eat but where do we stand on foods that contain alcohol. E.g. Cranberry sauce that my mum has made that has port in? Xmas cake? Xmas pud? Brandy sauce?

Seems like Xmas is a hard time to be preggas lol! X

I don't know what the official rules are, when pregnant I would use a little in cooking, eg red wine in stews and white in pasta sauce. For me id have the odd splash but not a lot.

Again I don't know what the nhs would recommend

I think alcohol cooked in foods is ok in moderation as most of the alcohol is burned off.

It depends how much alcohol is in it and how it's cooked. Very little alcohol burns off during cooking unless it's cooked for a long time eg traditionally steaming a Christmas pudding for several hours. Microwaving for a few mins won't reduce the alcohol. But a supermarket own pudding usually only has a splash anyway so a small piece is OK whereas the luxury booze soaked ones can be pretty alcoholic. I'm taking the view of.if I'm happy to give it to my toddler then I can have it :)

As the girls have said. Alcohol cooks off if like in a sauce for ages or baked for ages but dont go all out the cherry soaked bases and stuff.

I had 3 vodkas before I found out I was pregnant. Not that you should drink, I just mean the odd glug in food here or there wont cause harm.

Im pretty sure a few year ago they says a glass of wine a night was allowed. Its always a grey area with alcohol and the guilt id feel if anything happened so in the summer and Christmas when I was 9m preggers I opted for non alcoholic cider. Did the trick. At least you wont get hungover!! :)

I've been having prosecco cheesecake not large quantities and mince pies, I assume there isn't that much quantity in them.

Thanks for the advice guys, I might just avoid everything other than the cran sauce as I know my mum didn't use a lot and it will have burnt off! X

Hi I also use itnforncooking ime steak and ale pie ect. I would only have it in something cooked but that's just me. I used to think I might have a glass with dinner tomorrow but a few weeks back I had a tiny sip of a mates and I felt terrible.
I do like Prosecco truffle but not had any, I don't think since I found out I was pregnant xx

I have pasta sauce with wine in because it's a small amount, I wouldn't have Christmas cake with alcohol in though as there's usually a high volume. Same with Christmas pudding. Mince pies with brandy in the mince I'd maybe have one or two but that's it lol.
