My DD is coming to 7 months and I still use the cow & gate number 1 but I'm wondering if I should switch to the follow on milk?

She is on 3 meals a day along with 3 bottles. Has anyone switched or have you just stayed with the infant milk or breast milk?

Thanks,

Excuse the typos, phone has mind of its own.

I heard follow on is the same as normal milk just with extra sugar so they can get around the advertising ban. My HV told someone next to me at clinic that there is no need for it.

We see a dietician for an in related reason and I was told the follow in milk is basically the same an not to bother

I used the follow on milk until lo one was 1, then I just gave him cows milk. This was on the advice of both my GP and HV.

I use SMA but my HV said the second stage is the exact same just has a bit more iron in it than the infant milk so il probably keep using that unless im having a tight week and need to pay on my boots advantage card cos they only let you buy second milks with points,

I use cow and gate number 3 follow on milk. Have done from 6 months but that's purely so I can get club card points or boots advantage points. I was told they are the same. But I will be switching to cows milk when josh is 1.

I tried follow on milk when phoebe was 7 months. We were on cow & gate comfort milk before. The follow on didn't agree with her because she wasn't getting her wind up so kept being sick. So we switched back to 1st stage comfort milk and she's fine again now. There is quite a bit more sugar in follow on milk x

I've heard follow on has added iron and is less filling x

follow on milk is just meant to be used as a drink to complement weaning and is not a food substitute like number 1 and 2's personally the choice is yours you can carry on with what your doing or swap, i have swapped in the past with my other 2 but wont with this LO as there is no follow on formula for the milk he is on its just from birth to 18months :) you can always try if she dont like it switch back xx

We switched to follow on and she's been fine :) it's up to you, she still has stage 1 stuff occasionally if they have nothing else and is also fine, to be fair she'll eat or drink anything I give her lol, I think it's up to you, maybe ask your HV. X

Does has the extra iron that babies need after six months, we switched at six months.

because when lo is born they have a store on iorn to last 6 months they tild me they only recomend it if baby is not eating enough solid food to maintain a healthy iorn level if lo is eating fine then there is no need for it xx

If its basically the same as the first milk then surely where finances are concerned its better to move onto the follow on milk as in some cases it's slightly cheaper and has the advantage of boots points etc which can be used for LO in other ways?? We moved on to follow on from comfort milk and have had absolutely no problems. Xxx

Thanks ladies. I was thinking about it for the iron content. Also as I can can get points and they are always in the baby events!

I will have a chat with HV I think but it does seem that it makes no difference.

I'm using SMA Toddler milk now 1-3 years as I worry about vitamin and iron intake but it's costing me a fortune. I also used stage 1 up to 6 months and the follow on stage 2 after 6 months. Once this tub is done though I'm changing to whole cows milk. She's dropping the amount of milk she consumes herself now anyway.

It has extra iron in it so I have been using it purely because that is what they recommend (im not brave enough to go against the grain!! lol!!) He treats his bottles as a drink now dunno if that is coz it is less filling or just because he gets filled up more from his food!!

I know what you mean hun, I'm a stickler for trying to stick to the recommended where milk, iron and vitamins are concerned. I know 100% that I'll be stood hmmm and haaa-ing over the toddler milk at the supermarket when this tub runs out and more than likely buy it again out of guilt lol

lol ladies, im gonna look at toddler milk purely cos of the price difference as i bf partly and she dosent take much formula. if the only difference really is sugar content then i'll stick to the aptimil blue.

I was having the whole growing up formula vs cows milk dilemna last night and did some research. How old is your Lo babys momma?
