You should have a certainamount of folic acid in your diet anyway, but obviously a lot more when you are pregnant as it affects nerve development however as you stated its normally just recomended during the first 12 weeks and while your trying to conceve as this is the time it will effect your baby. Its belived that a lot of expectant mums start taking it to late to make a difference anyway as they dont start till they find out they are pregnant, so its worth taking as soon as you decide to start trying for a baby.
