I'm flying to Austria for a couple of days next week - I'll be 26 + 5 days on the day we fly and 27 +2 when we return - do I need to take anything with me to prove how far gone I am (DH heard of a woman not being allowed on a plane as she didnt have a certificate yesterday!!???) We are flying with Ryan Air, my insurance company didnt need any proof just took my word for it but I just wanted to be sure.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I was never asked and I flew short haul right up to 36 weeks with DD's one and two!

Best to check with Ryanair though. I've heard they can be quite particular about things......

i think most airlines state a "fitness to fly" letter from doctor is required if youre over 28 weeks, just stating youre ok and how many weeks pregnant you are. think the problem is they dont always ask to see it but in their conditions they say they can request to see a letter.
.youre probably ok as under 28 weeks but as sammy said prob best to check with ryanair directly tho

Generally you're ok but each airline is different so I'd check with Ryan Air and see if they have any specific policies you need to be aware of.

riiiight here we go ....

upto 28 weeks no dr cert req... then 36 weeks plus no travel permitted.

thats come straight from ryan air cabin crew.

would your doc make you pay for a certificate out of interest?

I'm flying on friday to Dubai with BA and they say you don't need anything before 28 weeks, a doctors letter after this up until near the end i think 36 weeks when you can't fly at all, so sounds the same as the ryanair policy claire_louise mentions.

So as you are flying back before 28weeks you don't need to take anything, however you never know how awkward a person you'll get when checking in and they may not believe you are before 28weeks and just dont have a note.......

So what i'm going to do is take my maternity notes with me (do you have your notes, i think most people hold their own?) as that has my due date on proving i'm less than 28weeks. Plus it's worth having them with me just in case I need to see a doctor or anything pregnancy related while away.

Have a good trip!

I flew to northern ireland and then poland a couple of weeks ago, it wasnt until my homeward bound flight from poland did someone stop and ask me if i was pregnant and how far gone i was and did i have proof!? luckly i had a letter from my doctor stating i was fit to fly... but if you're within the weeks stated by your airline I would think that MATB1 form would be enough proof.........Dont quote me on that!

may be worth phoning the airline before you go though as the way I see it is everyone looks different in pregnancy and someone who is only 24weeks could look bigger than someone who is 30!!

hope you have a good trip :D

I flew quite late into my last pregnancy and my midwife just wrote me a quick note, and signed it.
