I have started a 5 day course of these antibiotics for a 'suspected' infection in my scar, the doctor said it was ok but to take these as a preventative to make sure its clear.

The thing is, they give me horrendous stomach ache - you take them on an empty stomach. Now, he said that trace of this goes through to the breastmilk and Im not sure if Im being over cautious but last night Matthew screamed from 7 o'clock until 10.30pm, when he was so exhausted he went to sleep. He was clearly in pain, his face so red from screaming and this morning his voice is hoarse. I think that the antibiotic is passing through my milk and giving him a stomach ache - this wasnt the usual colicky baby that I can't settle with gripe water and a dummy.

So, I have just had my morning one - Im so tempted to quit the whole lot, I can't let him scream like that every night and be in discomfort. My scar isnt infected anyway!

I guess I need some reassurance and a bit of advice! :eh:

I wasn't given antibiotics for my scar as the midwife really didn't want me to take them while breast feeding and it was for exactly this reason. She said that as Paige was already a colicy, it would just make things worse as it can upseet their stomachs. My scar has possibly taken a little longer to heal completely but its fine now. I really hope both you and matthew feel better soon. xx

Good luck with whatever you decide.
I had infected scar after less than a week, with v high temp and flu aches, been in bed last from last fri-sun.:eh: Finally felt better yesterday. They gave me cefelaxin (something like that-no energy to get up and check spelling...) and he seems fine with it. If you don;t have symptoms then strange they gave you antibiotics to take? x

Do what you feel is right RM, or try without for a bit, and if scar shows any signs , then ask for something else

hope Matthew feels better soon
