Hi,

My partner is five weeks pregnant, confirmed by a scan.

Seven days after conception she suffered flu like symptoms which last around a week. We are really worried about the implications on the babies health.

Thank you for any input.

Hey,

You don't need to worry! Feeling under the weather with flu symtoms is a normal response in the first few weeks of pregnancy.

When the fertilised egg implants into the womb it sends hormonal signals to the entire vascular system to double in size overnight. Blood doesn't cath up till week 14 - called vascular underfill. Is the cause of morning sickness, fatigue, dizziness and generally feeling unwell.

She may have contracted a virus as well during this time as immunity is down but your partner should have enough antibodies to cope with it and it shouldn't affect the baby.

Its pretty normal to have at least 48 hours of feeling like you've been hit by a truck when the egg implants, so don't panic :)

Like Nisha said it's a common ailment in pregnancy and won't harm the baby in the slightest :)
