Hi

I'm hoping all of you know what I mean by "flinching"? Well Isaac is very flinchy. The sound of me putting cutlery away makes him flinch and grimace aswell as any rattley noise like car keys jingling etc. I told the HV but when I got home she had written in Isaac's record book "mother reports baby to be occasionaly jerky". He is not jerky! He is flinchy!

Any of you understand or have the same thing with your bubby?

Lou :)

Naomi has a very strong startle reflex sometimes, particularly at unexpected noises. She flings both arms wide and looks as though she's deciding whether to cry or not...

I think it's down to an immature nervous system, I don't worry too much about it, I just soothe her and say softly, "it's ok, don't be scared, I'm here."

OH thinks I'm a nut.

Hi

Sue, Isaac does the same thing and I always tell him not to worry and that its only the washing machine spinning or whatever the noise is. Sometimes he does burst into tears but he is quickly comforted. Katrina, thanks for your reply. The HV didn't try and reassure me by tellimg me other babies do it too. Infact she clapped her hands infront of Isaac and he laughed and blew a raspberry at her. Typical!

I was just worried that Isaac was being over sensitive or that it was a sign of something more serious developmentaly.

If you startle Rubie, she will jump, then always laughs!!
