Hi Ladies,

I read something recently that dehydration in first trimester can be really dangerous and cause birth defects. ( not enough fluid to surround the baby ). I don't vomit etc. but feel very nauseous and find it so hard to drink anything. Some days I only during a couple of glasses of water which is way below the recommended but I don't feel thirsty. Perhaps I don't urinate a lot so I might need to drink more but difficult when I don't feel like drinking.

The scans I have had look good, would they have seen if something was wrong. Can they see if there is not enough fluid surrounding the baby on a 8 week scan?

thanks and a bit worried I don't drink enough xx

I find keeping a bottle of cold water helps remember to drink more, and it has also helped with the nausea I find its a lot worse if I don't drink as much water. But saying that I was so sick with my last baby that I couldn't drink juice or water for weeks- and he was a healthy 10lb4 lol. Just do what you can and try not to worry ☺ xx

I was sick for 9m and was threatened with a IV drip for hydration a few times.

But as long as you keep drinking plenty water, and other liquids. You should be fine.

I went overdue, J was 7lb 3 with no defects. I was all baby, hardly any surrounding fluid.

xxxx

Thanks! The problem is I have not been drinking plenty of fluids in the last couple of weeks... I hope I have not caused any harm. Will force down some more fluids from now on!

Would they have seen if I was lacking fluids on the scan?

xx thanks :)

They would tell if your baby has enough amniotic fluid but that doesnt depend on how much water you take.

Drinking water keeping hydrated keeps you energised etc and is generally beneficial plus you tend to need to drink more, as your more thirsty when pregnant.

If you havent drunk enough water in a few weeks Im sure everything will be fine. Just make sure you do from now on. To keep you and baby healthy.

For what its worth Ive certainly never heard of anyones baby have a defect as they didnt drink enough?

xxxx

I was very sick with my son and found it very hard to keep anything down unless I was smelling a lemon at the same time (but definitely couldn't drink lemonade strange ey) anyway he was pretty much fine. They told me he would be huge predicting a 10lb plus baby he was 7lb 2. My waters wouldn't break they had to be broken for me and there was oh so much of them lol he was all waters. He was a bit cold at birth and had to go in an incubator but it was the middle of December lol. He wasn't allowed out his incubator until he had a little hat and we had a few but had to get more. But yea I wouldn't worry too much about what you did in the past just look to what you can do now x

Thanks, I do eat food so guess I get some fluids from that and I don't vomit. I just haven't though about drinking if I am not thirsty..

Tbf I didnt drink like at set times? I found I was more thirsty than normal when pregnant and would drink.

Atleast maybe make sure you have a glass of water morning noon and night then the rest drink as and when.

Your meant to drink so much a day regardless and I dont stick to it. I drink whatever whenever. Although in your case maybe not whatever lol xxx
