First scan...(silly question)

Hi ladies,

So i got my first scan date over the weekend - 5th October! How much are these next 3 and a half weeks going to drag! I'm praying everything will be OK and i know a huge weight will be lifted off my shoulders if they tell me it is.

Right, now for the silly part. By the time i have my scan i'll be roughly 12/13 weeks pregnant. Is that too soon to detect the sex? If so, when does this become 'visible' shall we say? Also, how many routine scans are we supposed to have altogether, providing that they are no complications? xxxx

I think you can have scans that tell you what sex after 16 weeks.

You get 2 routine scans on the NHS. One at 12 weeks and one at 20 weeks.

Only two? That suprises me, i thought there were at least 3. No wonder people decide to have private scans! Thanks for the info TORino xx
