So this is not a thread to debate the age a baby should go in a cot or own room, but I wanted opinions on sleeping bags verses cellular blanket.

So whilst in her moses basket, i had Imogen in with a cellular blanket and she use to settle in it well. As she has virtually grown out of moses basket (will post pic in a bit) we decided this weekend to put her in her big cot. It took three attempts in the end the only way she settled was without sleeping bag and her cellular blanket instead, not a big deal and actually quite successful. I am curious to how other people got there little ones into there cots and sleeping bag experience.

Does anyone have there little one in a big cot with a cellular blanket and not use sleeping bags. Any tips advise welcome.

I think they look cold with just cellular blankets.....but then I think Jake looks cold in his sleeping bag too sometimes!

Is she used to having her arms tucked beneath the blanket or above it, free?

Hey hun. We have Oliver in his cot with blankets as he was swaddled. Now he can roll onto his tummy we have had to not swaddle him. He is sleeping fine with the blankets but moves around a lot and did end up under the blankets. Not a major drama as he shouted a lot lol but it did scare him. We are now switching to bags. His swaddle bag has arm holes so we using as a middle man kinda thing. All the time she isn't moving around the cot it's not a problem. Maybe try them for cuddle time to slowly get her used to them xxx

When our LO was little we put him in the cotbed with just the cellular blankets. It was an absolutely baking hot summer though so I didn't worry too much about him being cold etc. He is in his cot from 3 months but it probably wasn't until he was about 6 months he slept in a sleepling bag all the time. He's always been a wriggler and I think he liked to be able to kick his legs about with out being contained.

Has she been in the sleeping bag before this? Maybe it's all a bit too much change for her at once, moving to the cot and sleeping bag at the same time. I'd suggest letting her get used to the big cot first then move over to the sleeping bag after a few days or weeks. In my experience lo will let you know if she's cold.

We had thomas in a sleeping bag while in his Moses because he always kicked his blankets off and he then went into a crib with that and then Eventually his cotbed. If your little one is fine with the blankets I wouldnt worry

This is how she was sleeping in her moses basket in the last couple of days, obviously not text book, but every night without fail she would end up like this.
If any thing with sleepong bag, 2.5tog she looked too hot, (she has full sleeve vest on underneath)

Thanks for replies

How warms your room? This is what they recommend they wear clothes wise underneath if in a sleeping bag.

I put my boy in his cot from 1,5 months because he was too big for his cradle. I used a cellular blanket plus a baby blanket on him when he slept during the day but not anymore because he just wants to play with them! From birth and until yesterday, I used a baby douvet at night which kept him perfectly warm in our usually cold bedroom. He has always slept with his arms and chest out of the covers and wearing only one layer on his arms (he got too warm with two).

However, he has recently started moving around a lot in his sleep, and he'd kick off his douvet several times every night, so from tonight he's using a sleeping bag. I'm not sure if it's because it keeps him at the right temperature or because it's really cozy or if he's just too exhausted from yesterday, but he has slept much better tonight than just about every night for the last 3 weeks. :)

The room is 20...i feel like she is the right temp....

The night did not go well..she slept till 2:30 then woke again at 3:30, 5:30 and 6:30 (she recently has only been waking at 6:30, 2nd worse night we have had with her). Each time she cried when we put her down...

We ended up taking the mattress from moses basket in her cot for her to lie on, didnt seem to make too much difference but provided somewhere to tuck blanket under.

For the first couple of nights we put LO in his moses basket inside his cotbed which really helped him settle.

Thomas sleeps in a 1.3 tog bag and short sleeve best and pjs at that room temp. If I used the 2.5 tog he'd just been in a vest.

That has been fairly recent though as sometimes his room drops to 18 and then it's borderline as to which bag he uses with his full sleeping gear. He likes to be snuggley too

Every baby will be different hun. Oscars room starts off about 23 then as the night gets on can go down to 18/19. When we first put him down he has his sleep suit on and that's it, if I put a blanket on it seems to bug him and he kicks it off, once it's off he settles again. He has rolled up towels either side of him for a bit of comfort and to try and stop him spinning round the bed! But they don't offer much warmth really. Then when I go to bed and he's in a deep sleep I put a fleece blanket over him. We tried sleeping bags but he just gets tangled in them! Might try again now he's a bit bigger!

Well for the first month our baby slept on us and would not go down at all do would take it in turns to sleep as it was the only way we'd get any. As of five nights ago he wad unhappy on us and wanted to kick about and has slept in his carry cot ever since. Our room is about 21 degrees and he sleeps in a baby gro under a sleep suit and nothing else. He sweats under any blankets and so far seems happy with his sleep suits. I think its whatever your baby prefers.

Last night was alot better...having had such a crap night the night before...i was over the sleeping bag, blanket worry, just as long as she slept. :-)

We actually had a much better night sleep...in the end. We ended up putting her moses basket mattress and sheet on the cot mattress...and also gave us something to tuck blanket into...it took two attempts but she went down at 9:30 and then slept till 6am and then went back till 8am. So much better..2nd attempts putting her down involved the old warming mattress trick which we did in the early days.

Funny enough she seems to be getting use to the space when she woke i found her sleeping diagonal with her feet between barriers!

Brilliant. It does take them a few nights to get used to the new cot/room but once they do it's great. Your LO sounds like mine a proper wee wriggler!
