Got my 1st app on Wednesday 12th at 2.15pm..

Had to tell work because they were being funny about letting me have time off, so atleast thats one thing out of way...

Anyway what do they do in 1st App. i'll only be 6weeks 1day..

I want her to sprinkle sticky baby dust all over me, and predict my pregnancy and tell me everythin will be perfect hehe..

Is that what she does hehe ? xxc :cheer:

Usually nothing much, especially at 6 weeks. Booking in appointments are usually done at 8 weeks plus.

She'll take some medical history and background of you and your partner (he does not need to be present for this), probably weigh you (but may take it off your present medical record) record your BP and have a bit of a chat.

She'll tell you when she next wants to see you, give you a urine pot to pee into before your next visit and that'll probably be about it.

Depending on when she next wants to see you, it may be 12 weeks it may be a bit before or after. She should be the one to send off your paperwork so you'll get a 12 week dating scan through in the post from yoru hospital later on. Ask her what the arrangements are for that to be on the safe side.

Also just make sure you ask anything you feel you need to. Don't walk out of there feeling worried or that you have not understood something. Better to have it clarified by the professional before you leave than stress and run home to Google it

TBH there is nothing they can do in these early weeks anyways. You just have to go about your life and try not to worry (easier said than done I know). They may give you an earlier scan but it really depends. If you have no pain or heavy bleeding they may just wait and see. Talk it over with the MW and see what she says.

Good luck

Everything is fine so far with this pregnancy,

Lil bean implated himself good and propper had thepains to go with it hehe..

now just sore boobs, and a lil sickness.

i'm silly and do HPT's and there still as strong as ever, so everythin ok,

I want a re-assurance scan but OH thinks its silly, because it#f it was worth having they'd do it on NHS... i see his point. but i want it hehe xxx

Talk to your MW about a possible reassurance scan, tell her all your worries and she'll be able to reassure you/book you in for one maybe! Mine did for me and I've been fortunate enough to have no previous history...

Hope all goes well :D xxx

when she booked you in, did you pay, if so how much..

It may just be her policy. The general reason they don't worry with booking in before 8 weeks is (and I know this might not sound very nice) because of the possibility things might go wrong. My MW told me a surprisingly high percentage end in MC in the early weeks, hence them waiting till 8 weeks. MC in the early stages often happens and many women didn't even realise they were PG or had MC'd. Also there is nothing they can do medically for this sort of thing so early in pregnancy. So waiting till 8 weeks usually means the woman has gotten to that point and is PG and they can then proceed with paperwork and start arranging scans and blood tests for the 12 week mark. As explained to me by GP and MW.

You may be able to ask for an early scan on the NHS but often unless you are experiencing problems they may just wait till 12 weeks. Don't fret as having had one MC does not mean you are likely to have second. Try to relax and enjoy things and if you experience anything to really worry about of course call your MW, but otherwise I'd say try to go with the flow

Thanks for reply hun,

I had my first MW appointment at 9 weeks then the usual 12 week scan at 11+3, then I was getting pretty big and was panicking so I contacted my MW and she book me in for a check up scan/reassurance scan at 13+3 (on the NHS) - everything was ok but I really needed that second scan!

No! I don't think she's booked you in early for any other reason that to reassure YOU. That's how it sounds anyway :) So don't worry hun

MC happens, it is really sad and horrible for women but it does occasionally happen. There is absolutely no indication that your previous MC has anything to do with this pregnancy. It wasn't your body that lost the baby, it was lack of fetal development that made you MC.

Apparently most women get pregnant around the time you conceived, it seems to be a favourite season or something!! So she's probably pretty busy and has to try and fit women in as and where she can.

I was due to have my 16w appointment last week but my MW called Thursday to ask if I'd be ok to have it on 20th March instead (I'll be nearly 18 weeks) because she was busy. So that might be a reason it's early.

It's great that you ask questions, I think most of us would be curled up in a ball in a dark room somewhere rocking backwards and forwards without the help of this forum lol!! :cheer:

xx

hehe i do that anyway lol...

Last time its hard to explain but...

I had AF at the beggining od Dec, and then found out i was preg on 16th, they sent me for other tests, my HCG levels had dropped and i'd already m/c.. so i was either extreamly early on, of my AF was my m/c or i jus had a abnormal bleed.. either way i didnt get sore boobs, and no implantation pains.. i know each preg is diff, but this one feels soo much more real..

i know i shouldnt go of what Cheri22 says, but she didnt predict me for Dec as she can only predict full term pregnancy's, and she predicted this one, and says it'll be a boy :-) i'm happy either way..

So i genuinly believe this lil Bean is sticking!!

You guys are seriously the best, i would be in a room with white walls without this forum for 9mnths lol.. well aslong as i had the internet and pc, i wouldnt care anyway lol xxx

i have my first appointment on Wed too!!

Just out of interest, whendid you contact your docs for app,

i'm thinkin they may have booked me in early because i was at docs when i booked in, because i thought i had water infection..
didnt in end but jus wanted to make sure..

If they genuinly thought something was wrong, surely they'd do blood tests, not jus refer me to m/w as that'd be wasting her time..

i'm hopeful hehe xxx

ignore my ticker, i forgot to change it but i am 7 weeks JUST so having early appt too. I think it all depends on what area you are in,

Most women who have had 2 or more MC sometimes get an early scan (around 6 weeks or something) just to check the baby is all stucken in there :D

If your MW/docs thought there might be a problem and the MC might have implications on this pregnancy, I'm pretty sure they'd have told you by now or let you in on what tests/scans you'll be having in the next couple of weeks.

 I'm going to stop posting on your thread now lol xx

dont stop posting its what keeps me going lol...

Yeh i'm 99% certain everythings fine i trust this iccle bean..

I have had one def m/c..

also one a few yrs bk unconfirmed, had some unusual bleeding, and doctor said was most likely a chemical.. but i didnt think anythin of it at the time atal..

but maybe if i mention this it may increase my chance of her giving me re-assurance scan, but at same time, i'm sure if she thought it was neccasary she'd put me in for one anyway hehe...

I know i'm going to have a H&H pregnancy i can feel it :-) xx

Hi Charlotte.... I have my first MW appointment at 2:15 on Wednesday too so we'll be in there at the same time! I'll be 1 day off 8 weeks pg so it's about normal time I think.

I had to see my doc at 6 weeks but all he said was congratulations and book a MW appointment on the way out! total waste of time!

I had to have an early scan last week because I had a bit of spotting and because I didn't have a MW I called the docs who sent me for a scan. TBH I would have loved to have been allocated a MW earlier just so I had the re-assurance of having someone I could contact if I needed advice or a professional opinion on anything. It was the worst feeling ever when I noticed the spotting and I didn't know who to speak to.

Good luck at your appointment and don't forget to let us know how you've got on.

My GP told me to sit tight and wait till 12-14 weeks, when the hospital will book me in. Is that normal not to have a check up before then with the midwife? When do they generally contact you with the appointment?

The GP didn't do anything except say 'comgrats' and take by blood pressue adn weight, and give me a book. I was there or 15 mins max.

Now I have such a long wait..... for the best!

With me I rang the docs when I found out at 4 weeks and was told to ring back and see the doc in a couple of weeks. I saw the doc at 6 weeks and was just told to make a MW appointment on my way out for about 8 weeks.

I always thought it was the MW who got in touch with hospital to make your scan appointments for you

Maybe different docs have different practices. IMO I don't think I'd be comfortable going all the way through to 12 weeks without having an allocated midwife. I like having the reassurance of having someone I can call if I need anything.

have you got any firends or family in your area who you can ask what they had to do??

Yes its normal. Many areas don't book in till then if it goes via a hospital. There really is nothing to be done before then anyways. If your GP took your BP and weight then thats fine :)

I think many women feel a bit let down in the early weeks by the lack of medical interest, but really, they don't/can't do anything until a certain point further down the road. Its just down to the woman to carry on with life, cope with pregnancy symptoms and so on. If a woman has a past medical history to cause them concern of course its different, but for the most of us, they let nature takes its course till a bit later on :)
