Morning ladies,

I called my docs surgery today to make an appointment to see the doctor and confirm the pregnancy but was told by the receptionist i don't need one!
Apparently you fill in the paperwork at reception and they contact the midwife.
Has anyone had this before?

no, but I'm not suprised!
I went to the doctor, but they didn't know what I was there for.
I told my doc I was pregnant and she said ok, I'll book you an appointment with the midwife. . . . that was 8 weeks ago and I'm only just going to see the midwife for the first time later today!

All they would do at this early stage is maybe give you a folic acid prescription and the maternity card to get your dental and prescriptions free. Oh, and give you a few little booklets on pregnancy. Hopefully your midwife appointment will be booked soon to get started on that stuff.

Feel free to pester them if they take too long! Good luck!

No....but my doctors appointment was pretty pointless. I went in, she asked if I'd taken a hpt, I said yes, she said congratulations, worked out a rough EDD told me what food to avoid, then booked me in with MW.

So, I wouldn't worry too much, if my apt is anything to go by you won't be missing out on much.

MW will probably want to see you somewhere between 7-12 weeks depending on the area, I got booked in to see mine at 7 weeks.

Congrats on your BFP - wishing you happy & healthy pregnancy :cheer:

My docs appointment was pointless too! They didn't even check if I was prg. If they say you don't need one I'd go with it save yourself the time.

My GP just said "Congratulations" and added she'd refere me to the midwife unit.

That was it!!! Oh no I lie, she also asked if I was taking folic acid. I said yes and that was the end of our meeting!!

I wasn't asked to pee in a cup to do an on the spot check to ensure I was or anything so if you can call up and just ask for a midwife referal (you might have to pop in and collect a pack but it's better than having to schedule an appointment and waiting around while they call you 20 minutes late for a 2 second referal appointment) you'll be better off than having to actually see the GP, it really is a waste of time.

My drs was the same, went in she said congratulations worked out my edd and told me to make an apt with the mw - that was it she didn't confirm that I was pg and it wasn't all just my imagination basically she said the hpt kits are so good she didn't need to do another test.

mine was simular to the others, except he went through medication I was taking to check its safety in pregnancy... You can visit your doc if there is an issue still, you aren't missing out on anything
