Fire Guards????

We have an open fire in our middle room, with quite a big hearth, and a smaller woodburning stove in our back room. Now Willow is crawling, we need to get some guards, but so far the only ones I can find do not fit the stove and are really ugly anyway. Obviously there is only so much beauty one can install in a fire guard but honestly, the ones I've seen are like the Alcatraz of fire safety. What guards do you use, if any? I need help!

Why not try some Antique shops? or look in the local papers for scrap iron merchants, they always seem to have that sort of thing floating around.
