For nearly 2 weeks now Dylan has been draining 4oz bottles 5/6 times a day. So decided Monday evening to put him up to 5oz a feed and since then he's still been feeding at same times 6 a day, and taking between 4.5 - 5 oz a time (apart from 1 bottle)

Is this about right or too much? I did think it could be a growth spurt but not sure when they are.

He was 7lbs at birth, and when I got him weighed thursday (3 weeks 5days) he was 8 lbs 12 oz!

I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right :-) x

My MW said Growth Spurts are at 2weeks and 6weeks... My LO is only 2 weeks and has about 3-4oz, but last night polished 5oz... My MW said if he requires it to give it but try water first... Don't know if that helps... xxx

Thats about the same time when Sophie started finishing 4ozs off but from then on has fluctuated between only taking a ounce sometimes or only managing to finish 3 of the 4 and we've not managed to go up again yet :/

Hv coming tomorrow so will check with her.

Abi - wonder why sophie has dropped oz? Maybe she went threw a growth Spert too. How many oz does she have in 24 hours? Dylan has between 24-28 ATM xx

Alyssia is nearly 4 weeks and she takes between 4-5oz but now seems to only feed 5 times a day instead of 6. I dont know if this is too much or not really. She was 6'5 at birth and not due to be weighed till the 13th so will find out what she has put on then. Also I was told not to give water with formula my my midwife and HV as it can fill their bellies?! So I havent! X

Think my MW only suggested it because Jack was demanding food every hour or two and then throwing up so wasn't able to handle the milk so often. xx

Ahhh right. Ive found so much contraticting advice from feeding to bathing been offered by midwives round here I dont know if im doing wrong or right! LOL

Everyone seems to give different advice.

I'll record how much she's having at the weekend to check as MIL has her today and tomorrow for me. Adding it up off the top of my head from what she had yesterday, she generally has about 28oz daily.

Spoke to mw and she said amount he's taking is normal, but suggested I change his milk cause sma is giving him tummy ache and tummy ache green poo :-(
My mw said small amounts of cooled boiled water is fine, especially if it's warm / he's got hiccups etc xx

We had the same problem with SMA and went onto Cow and Gate Comfort mainly cos of colicky symptoms. Alyssia gets a lot of hiccups and always has done think I might try her on a little bit of water next time. She gets weighed on tuesday so will be intersted to know what she weighs now, your LO sounds perfect XX

im using sma too, he has green watery poo, is that bad then:shock:??? i give him water with a small pinch of sugar in, most days because he seems to really like it and helps him poo, health nurse said that it was fine..

Green poo is meant to mean colic/tummy ache or over/under feeding, hv said in my case its tummy ache because of milk not agreeing with him he arches his back quite alot. I've changed to aptimal as of midnight (so he's had 5 feeds of aptimal) and he's just had a yellowy green seedy massive poo! So hopefully on the turn.
The hv advised me to change to aptimal or cow and gate comfort xx

thanks i didnt know that.. il keep an eye on it for a day or two and ask the nurse, might change him too xx

Has his always been green? Since 5 days dylans has always been green (stopped bf'ing at 5 days) his was dark / army green and as weird as this sounds like a paste / cement consistency. When I said that to hv, she said 'yeah that sounds like tummy ache from the milk, SMA doesn't agree with most babies' xx
