Sitting here very teary this morning ........... this morning was the last morning we had with the latest guide dog we were boarding.
Had her for 3 months and now she is fully qualified and matched with her new owner and goes to live with them today.
We had her while she completed her advanced training and while I know its a fab thing she is going to do, it doesnt make it any easier giving back a dog you have had for that length of time.
Missing her already :(

:hugs:I have always admired anyone that does guide dog training. Dogs (and other animals) become such a big part of the family its hard when they're not there. Treat yourself to something yummy and I hope you feel better soon x x

Aww shes so cute, i would be in tears but shes off to her new life and you only have a couple of weeks for your new arrival too :-)

Hope your feeling better soon hun xxx

its entirely up to the new owner... our details are passed to them but out of the three previous dogs we have had, we have only had 1 update on 1 dog.
We aren't allowed to see them either for 6 months, so as not to confuse them. But the owner that did contact us said we are more than welcome to go and see her when the 6 months are up. Not sure how I feel about that - think I would find it very difficult to see her and interact with her and then have to say goodbye all over again. OH on the other hand thinks its a fab idea. I think for me, I would just get very emotional so will have to just see when the time comes.
We had a situation a couple of weeks ago where the last dog we boarded, which we gave back about 3 months ago, was back in the guide dogs office as its new owner fell ill and could no longer have a dog so she was being re-matched. The dog recognised us straight away and got really excited to see us. It was lovely to see her but it was also heart wrenching at the same time.

 I couldn't do what you do. I am really bad at saying goodbyes...

me too! OH was taking her back today as its beside his workplace. As soon as he brought her collar into the room I started crying and couldnt talk. Id already had a cuddle and play with her so he had to just take her out of the room straight away.

She looks lovely. And you should be giving yourself a fab pat on the back for the great job you do. I know it's sad (I would be terrible!!) but you have improved someone's life so much - it must feel very good after the initial wrench. I don't think anyone would begrudge you that Ben and Jerrys tonight! xxx

I think you are an amazing selfless person for giving a dog a loving home and the gift you are giving to their blind companion is just unbelievable. massive massive respect x

Agree with Fi. Lovely thing to do.x

Oh jo she is such a cutie, I couldn't imagine saying goodbye either. It must be so hard to do. I had to re-home one of my cats and Found a lovely new home and have seen him only once and that was hard. Full respect to you both for doing guide dog training xxx
