Hi girls,

So I have been having what I assume are Braxton Hicks for the past 2-3 weeks now (intense tightening of the uterus, it'll go rock hard for no longer than 10-15 seconds and then relax, no pain to accompany it or bleeding etc etc), I get them, spaced out, no more than 6 or 7 times a day. This really worried me at first because I didnt think it was normal to get them this early, however, after lots of searching and seeking advice from friends who have been pregnant I felt confident they were normal as long as I had no other symptoms (no pain, bleeding etc). So I go my midwife appointment at my local health centre yesterday and I said I just wanted to double check my BH are normal, straight away she looked concerned and said no its not normal even though I said I'd got nothing else wrong. She took my urine and said it seems highly unlikely that there's a UTI but I was quite dehydrated. She had a listen to her heartbeat, all was fine. I had a contraction while I was there and she felt my belly n just kept saying to herself no no no that's not normal - meanwhile I was sat there worrying my socks. Shes signed me off till Monday because OH was there and said I'd been overworking - true I guess. And she then said she wants to send my urine to the local hospital to be checked.

To be honest, it was out of order scaring me unnecessarily like that unless she def knew what was wrong. And she was extremely disorganised and obviously not listening to a word I was saying; the first thing I said when we went in the room was that I'd forgotten my notes and she said it was fine just to remember them in future. She then asked for my notes 3 TIMES throughout the appointment!!! Honestly, having a baby is no picnic and its a very serious thing so you'd think they'd act like they cared just a bit more. And the hospital here is useless as well, they lost my notes, they lost my blood and urine results, then they gave me the WRONG blood results, I think my shortest waiting time was about 40 mins and receptionist has never let us know when there's a delay or been particularly helpful when I asked her how much longer it's gonna take. Just makes me think what's the friggin point?!

Me and hubby bought a dog on Tues (not a pup, so we didnt have to toilet train etc) a beautfiul husky and I loved him to pieces. The previous owner had a 1 year old and she said they got on fine n just general a very well behaved dog. The previous owner was lovely and said if I have any probs to call her or if I didn't feel it was working I could take him back. He definitely seemed like a good dog, a little boistrous but what dog isnt lol, until I took him for a walk with my friends dog and he tried to viciously attack her..... then the followed morning he went for me!! I was pertrified because he is a huge dog. This woman knew I was pregnant and I don't think this was the first time he'd displayed violent behaviour so why the hell would she let him come with us? OH was not happy, rang her immediately and said we want our money back and (£100.00!) and we want to return him - "oh sorry we're both on holiday at the moment, but we can't take him back anyway. and we've spent the money" she continued to imply that I'd taken the attempted attack too far and even went as far to say I'd made it up. This all happened last night and I just lost it, just sat crying for like two hours - couldnt stop :( but I've decided I'm fed up with people walking all over and I'm demanding my money back off her!!

I'm so sorry for the essay girls :( you know what it's like when you just need to get it off your chest :p

Aww... No i sounds llike you are having a right awful time at the moment.

Its not fair for her to say she would take back the dog if any problems and then not follow that up, Maybe if you keep on at the previous owner she may cave? Anythings worth a shot i would say :).
We bought a puppy 2 weeks before finding out that i was pregnant (they are hard work lol).

I hope everything is ok with you and that you sort the preoblem with your dog as soon as you can.

Big hugs hun..

Amy xx

Awh hun, sorry to hear you're having a bad week :hugs:

Did you get anything in writing that you could take the dog back from this women? Because I don't know if you'll be able to do anything about it if you haven't. It's going to be a case of your word against hers if it were to get serious.

Dog's are hard work, we've got 3 springer spaniel pups, we've had them since day 1 and I wouldn't give them up for anything. I'm just praying they're going to be ok when baby comes. So far they're ok with children but a child 24/7 is a lot different!!

If all fails in taking the dog back, if you perserve in him, you'll find he'll change and settle. There's obviously been something to trigger his attack and if he can learn to love and trust you, and he's socialised with dogs better he'll be a treat, but I recommend you getting some help. It's no easy thing to do and it's very scary when a dogs turns like that but it's become second nature to him so he's obviously been mistret at some point.

Hi PrincessPeanut, I just had a text from her saying she would. But she's now out of the country for the next two weeks. I txt her saying I felt so let down, that I am scared of the dog etc but she's basically saying it's not her problem anymore etc, really annoyed me!! But we put him on gumtree the other night and weve got a bloke whose interested and we're taking him to see him tonight so fingers crossed. I feel really bad for the poor dog going from place to place but honestly he absolutely terrified me and my friends dog. :( just hope he finds a loving home :p

Sorry you having a crappy time. I've been getting Braxton hiccs too a few times a day, I just thought they were normal too. I've had a bad uti and kidney stones recently so maybe that is the cause.

Shame about the dog. We re-homed a boxer for a while once and he turned nasty too after us being told he was great with kids he bit a dog trainer! I let him go to another family with older children and told them what had happened, my daughter was only 7 at the time so didn't want to risk it. We ended up getting another boxer but from a puppy so there wouldn't be the same risks, she was hard work but is the soppiest dog ever, and puts up with a lot from my friends kids which is reassuring! Hope everything works out and he goes to a home where they can sort him out.

Sorry you are having a bad time hugzzzz, I tried to rehome 2 dogs b4 that i got from a dogs home, wanted to give them a better life but the first one turned on my brother for no reason and he was pretty young then so it was really scary (had to bring the dog back) and the 2nd one became very jealous of everything and it was impossible to take him for a walk, he would try to attack any dog he seen and would just go crazy, it just became a nightmare in the end and I had to bring him back too :( was all very upsetting and stressful so I gave up after that and got a cat lol I now have 4 cats that I have had for years and they are just wonderful :D

Thanks hun, I'm even more annoyed with the midwife now. The urine sample I gave yesterday for her to send to the hospital, she can't send it because she doesn't have my hospital number so I gave it to her and she said she wants me to come back to the med centre today to give a new sample along and to bring my notes. I asked her what time the med centre was open till, she said I've got until 3 to drop it off (I live on an army camp and everywhere tends to close early), I literally got there at ten past one and surprise surprise it's all closed. Then I had a call from her saying BH were totally normal and not to worry but I must rest!!!!!!! I couldn't believe my ears, she was basically saying yesterday it sounded like premature labour and shes called me now to say its nothing to worry about :S I'm so annoyed and let down :( x

Geez like you are not stressed out enough but at least all is ok and that's the main thing, just try and relax and get some rest for you and the baby xxxx

Lol I know, they're supposed to make you feel at ease, not confused and annoyed!!! Yeah you are right tho, I am glad everything seems ok, my boss was lovely and shes signed me off till Monday, so I'm just gonna rest and chill :D x

aww hun! Sounds like you're having bad days! I would be very upset and worried as well if I were you!

what I would do about BH is to call another MW - an on-duty mw in a hospital, for example, and ask her. IT sounds like your mw wasn't very good, so maybe another one could explain to you better if BH are normal at this stage or not. I personally thought they could start that early, and it could be normal.

about the dog... I don't even know what to suggest :( Must be very scary to have a big vicious dog in the house, especially when the LO is on the way!! Do you think you still try and return him? What are you going to do?

I was just abuot to post about seeing another MW then I saw i.love's message. I would definitely go seak a second opinion. The MW sounds like a complete was of space!! xxx

Yeah she's completely confused me. My friend is literally a week behind me and she's been having BH and according to her MW they're completely normal!!!! I'm gonna give the med centre a call Monday and ask to see the other MW they have because this one is doing my head in already lol!!

About the dog, were taking him to see a guy whose interested tonight so hopefully he'll take him!!! I feel bad that we couldn't make it work with him but if that was my daughter who'd been threatened and practically mauled I would never forgive myself. I just can't believe the attitude of the previous owner, she seemed so lovely and shes basically saying now its my problem. She had a 1 year old daughter and said the dog was violent on occasion with them too but he settled in eventually. I'm sorry but either that's a load of crap or shes not a very good mum because if my daughter had been around when he did that I'd get rid of him ASAP!!! X

Hey Lauren sorry to hear you are having a rought time......

Re the dog. IMHO Huskies are NOT good family dogs unless they are worked and kept by experienced owners. I have Alaskan Malamutes (another sled dog breed) which I race and have many fiends with large husky kennels/teams so have been around the breed alot.

These dogs need 2-3 hours a day physical excersise to be happy, this is not just walking they need to run. Most will not be good off the lead either as their prey driveis incredibly high. They need very very firm but fair handling and training too. If not given the right amounts of excersise and stimulation they can become bored/destructive and display aggression.

Most Spitz breeds are not really that good with other dogs, particulary ones they do not know. They are also known for being very perceptive to human emotions. My lot are trying it on a bit at the moment!!

I think you've made the right decision to rehome him.

If I can help let me know, I do homechecks for various sled dog breed rescues and will see if we can get him into one of the schemes.

HTH sweetheart xx

Sorry to hear what happened. I've been having BH for a couple of weeks, i have to admit if i hadn't been through it before I would be pretty worried too, but as far as I believed in my previous pregnancy, its totally normal, as long as its not more than 10x an hour (dont quote me on that)

Thanks for the advice Cazza, we took him to see this guy and his family yesterday and they all loved him, plus he already has 2 huskies around the same age and he looked very happy so weve left him with them. I'm glad he has gone to a good home :D

littlemiss83 - Yes, that's what the MW said eventually (no more than about 7-10 an hour) but I've completely lost my confidence in her and I'm going to ask to see somebody else. She knows shes screwed up as well because she kept ringing me yesterday apologising for scaring me unnecessarily but my confidence in her is already gone I'm afraid so I'm gonna ask to see another one.
xx

Good on you, you should defo get another one, you have another cpl of months left of pregnancy, you dont want to have a mw who is scaring you for no reason.

Glad you got on well with the dog, at least you know the new owner has experience with that breed of dog and has others for him/her to play with.

Well Done Lauren on finding him a new home - I appreciate the decision wasn't easy but best all round x

Thanks guys, even tho the dog lashed out on me I still love animals and I did want him to go to a good home and he seems very happy. I've got my 20 week scan on Wednesday (hurray!!!) so I'm gonna ask them about the BH contractions and everything else I wanted to ask MW about. I went with a list of stuff I wanted to ask her, only ended up asking her bout BH - didn't feel safe or confident with her to ask the rest of my questions. Thanks for all your advice and support guys, much appreciated :D xx

I've been having tightenings for weeks now, don't think mine are regular, just seem to happen when I over-do things (like the housework - particularly hoovering) and I had exactly the same in my first pregnancy xxx

Yeah see a lot of my friends are pregnant - they're all ahead of me and nearly every one of them has had the same and their MWs all said completely normal (as long as they don't get painful, frequent etc), I took four days off last week (today was my first day back) and just from doing nothing they almost disappeared. So I think that's my answer, just the MW scared me on Thurs :( x
