Try as I might I can't get Archer to stay awake on the booby. He always falls asleep! And even though I keep waking him up by tickling his feet, blowing on his head etc, I always end up un-latching him myself and putting him down in his moses basket/swing.

He's obviously getting enough to eat as he is gaining weight well. He's only 8weeks and has colic so at this stage I don't mind him doing it, but I do worry becasue all the books say you shouldn't let them fall asleep this way every time, which he always does!!! Any advice on getting him to sleep without the booby and how do I get him to stay awake whilst on it?

He probably just falls asleep when he has had enough and is full...if he goes down and stays asleep when you put him down then its most likely the case....Jakob falls asleep on the boob alll the time but this is because its too much like hard work, not because he is full...i will put him down and he will wake up screaming for more 5 mins later...this becomes a vicious circle.

but what your DS is doing sounds fine...he is feeding till he is full and then having his sleep....i would be soooo happy if Jakob did that instead!

Fook what the books say! I am sure once the colic passes he will stop doing it but for now if it helps him sleep let him do it! When Leorah is wired I often feed her to calm her down. :)

I agree completely. Ellie had colic and now that that has passed she is fantastic. We had to give her lots of cuddles and I often had to let her sleep on me as she could only get comfortable enough to fall asleep while she was upright. Now she goes down for naps beautifully, goes down nicely at night and sleeps through on her own. Ignore the books trust your instincts.

Thanks everyone thats all very reassuring. I think the books only serve to make me more worried most of the time TBH!
:wall:

But its good to know its normal for him to fall asleep this way, he seems to sleep alot as a result, but I suppose when he's awake he wears himself out with the colic pains alot of the time. It breaks my heart becasue when he's not suffering he's such a happy baby

I tried to breast feed max at first, but he wouldnt stay awake for more than 2 mins so didnt have anything for the first 48 hours, even though the hospital tried to get me to carry on, i just said NO and gave him a bottle, which he stayed awake to drink!!!

Max now falls asleep everynight straight after his bottle and then goes to bed!
