Hi ladies today I purchased a ameda dual breast pump as I was so paranoid Bubs wasn't getting enough from me as he was only nursing for around 5-10 mins anywho I used to early and managed to get 4oz in about 10 minutes from one breast my questions are how can I store it and I only want to express if I'm going out sometimes. Will this muck up my supply? Because I've drained one breast how long will it take before its full again if that make sense? And how can I store the milk when I'm out? Sorry if this doesn't make much sense I have no clue when it comes to expressing.
X

id like to see the answers to this as i am having the same dilema, but i dont get much out when expressing and was wondering if i could express a bottle in different sittings (if that makes sense) like express as much as i can put it in fridge and add to it later the same day so i can have enuf in one bottle??

with regards to storage when out and about i thought you could just use one of them bottle holders which keep things cool.. but not sure about this either sorry im not much help all this expressing malarky is confusing

Thanks for replying I think you can add to other milk in the fridge as long as its still fresh, not sure how long you can keep it in the fridge. I read somewhere that said up to 7 days but that seems a long time! X

How old is LO - the 5-10mins could be cluster feeding to get your supply up. Expressing isn't recommended until you are established. Which can take up to 6weeks

Mother2mother website has good storage info - different people seem to hear different things.

Up 8hrs room temp
7days in fridge (not door)
6months in freezer

You can mix different sessions -best to cool separately though then mix, and date from earliest session.

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

Also if using EBM, the rules about throwing it out if LO doesn't finish a Bottle in one hour don't apply - that's formula only!!! Bm has antibodies that mean the contamination is irrelevant. X

so you can warm the breast milk feed and if she doesnt finish u can use it later on? u cant re heat tho can you?

My LO is just over 6 weeks now. He never seems to stay on for long but I think I have a fast let down and he is gaining weight well. As you say you don't have to throw BM away after an hour how long can you keep it? Or just use a fresh feed next time?

bubblesbeau my little ones 6 weeks today and still only feeds for 10-15 mins a time but shes gained weight really well i think it just depends on the baby how long they feed for...

That's I thought, it's just I get people telling I should be aiming or at least 30 mins on each side! I'm thinking that's never going to happen lol! Do you get find your LO coughs and splutters at the beginning of a feed? Like there's to much milk? That's why I was interested in expressing because I felt some Bad as he was getting himself into such a state x

yes definately.. this happens every feed.... i put it down to it 'going down the wrong hole' lol but ur explanation sounds loads better, shes looses her breath and looks a bit paniced when it happen, but calms down after a few seconds

Sounds like you have a fast let down ladies :D just means your milk flows fast from the beginning.

If my LO feeds from a bottle of EBM I've heated I only keep it two hours from when I've heated it but I'm not sure what the mother2mother site says I just like to be safe. Xx

Lol yes I thought maybe having a fast let down means bubs gets down to business quicker so doesn't need to feed for as long although I could be wrong, can I ask how long your LO goes between feeds usually?x

it depends normally about 2-3 hours, and can b longer at night what about u?

Usually every 1.5-2hrs during the day he goes longer at night though. I worry that I automatically put him on the boob everyone he cries. I maybe I should try to entertain him more x

Kellymom (an American website) is also a good site.

A pump is not as efficient as a baby's suckling action so please do not use the output as an indication of supply.

Xx
