When Ophelia reaches 6months I was wanting to have the option of giving her a bottle, but I cannot get anything off either breast at anytime (well I get about 1ml, its ridiculous!) I'm using an Avent hand pump, anyone else have this, can I do anything to get some milk off or should I get over it?

Using the pump you could try putting a hot water bottle on your breast before hand, having an item your baby has worn near your face, looking at your baby or a photo, to help stimulate your let down. Have you tried hand expressing before you start pumping, I would do this to get a let-down then pump. Its quite hard to explain hand pumping, Im sure there will be demonstrations on youtube, you gently squeeze the areola, near the outer edges with your thumb and forefinger and collect the tiny jets of milk in a small cup/ bottle. hth

if your close to a hospital you could hire one of their super duper electric ones and see if that helps? if it does it may be worth investing in a good electric pump. with me i have to train my boobies when it comes to expressing, if i haven't done it for a while i struggle to get an oz but if i keep up at it, (even 5 mins after every feed, or expressing off one while LO is on the other) i find they perk up and i can start to get a bit more each time.

Some people can't express :( I wouldn't spend the money on an electric pump if you can't get anything out - I would if you knew you could express, it would be worth getting the Ameda Lactaline Dual Pump. But if you're getting nothing that won't change.

I think someone posted to say that they found it easiest if they got LO to feed for a minute to start them off.
