Just found this on the Philadelphia website, and i'm made up! I love the stuff but assumed it was a soft cheese. Off out now to buy the garlic and herb flavour and some rivita!


I am pregnant can I eat Philadelphia?
Philadelphia is a pasteurised product. Pregnant women are advised not to eat un-pasteurised cheese.

I keep looking in supermarkets for pasturised brie but can't find that it says either way on the packaging. I would kill for some brie at the moment. I may pluck up the courage to ask at the cheese counter after I've had my scan

I only found this out at my midwife appointment 4 days ago!!

I used to eat loads of Philadelphia...
On crackers
And breadsticks...

But when i found out i was preganant i assumed it was soft cheese,
As it says that on the packet, the one your not allowed!

tbh i think most brie is pasturised, i know i asked in waitrose and they said it would say on it if it wasnt pasturised. i think its just the rind you should not eat, ive eaten brie through both my pregnancies hmmmmmm

I wouldn't eat Brie -

In order to avoid the risk of listeriosis pregnant women are advised to avoid eating ripened soft cheeses of the Brie, Camembert and blue-veined types, whether pasteurised or unpasteurised.

This is because ripened soft cheeses are less acidic and contain more moisture than hard cheeses, and are therefore more inclined to allow growth of undesirable bacteria such as Listeria, which may harm your unborn child.

You can enjoy hard cheeses such as Cheddar and Cheshire. Cottage cheese, processed cheese and cheese spreads can all be safely eaten during pregnancy.

this is from the food standards thing. I'm sure the risk is small as it is with most things like that but i wouldn't risk it.
