sorry, know this in the wrong bit but want advice quickly.

i have a fluey cold and evie has the same. she's been clinging to me all day; asleep on my chest. she wont eat, doesnt want her bottles and wont drink water. the doctor is supposed to be phoning me before 4 but im getting worried about her- shes been asleep all day without a dummy or a teddy which is weird for her. she cant sit up, or crawl and i dont want to give her calpol on an empty stomach- what can i do??

Firstly take her temperature. If its high strip her off and cool her down, give her calpol or calprofen every 4 hours and try and get her to drink, maybe she will take some from a syringe of you have one? Foods not important. The doctor will want to know her temperature so maybe write it down now and then take it again just before he rings at 4pm.

good luck

p.s If she really needs calpol, it doesnt matter about an empty stomach hun.

Jade if she's chesty don't give her anything with ibuprofen in as it makes them worse.

Phone NHS direct they maybe able to hurry things up with your doctor, your doctor should offer you an emergency appointment.

Is she weeing etc?

I always give Isaac alternate calpol and calprofen even when he is chesty

I was told by a paedatrician not to give it when I took Harrison in (he had bronchitis)

Oh right. I have seen on the packet about not taking it when you have asthma.

I'll have to bear that in mind. Thanks.

They have prescribed infant nurofen and saline drops to help with her breathing.

Thanks Guys, Willl keep you updated but hopefully she'll be better in the morning.

Yeah it's because he was chesty and wheezy and it's supposed to make the wheeze worse.

hope she gets well soon.

Phew! Make sure you give the nurofen exactly when it says you should on the box then that way her temp will stay down and not have a chance to rise. My sister even wakes her son up in the night for a dose because he has epilepsy and a high temp can make him have a seizure.

Hope she is better soon :)

aww no i'm sorry i missed this jade :(

i hope she's getting better- i prefer calpol over nurofen as its better for breathing and better at bringing temp down. if she's not taking water that would worry me due to potential dehydration, can u not get any down her with an oral syringe (even being a bit mean and tipping her head back holding her mouth shut so she swallows)?

if u cant get her to drink water at all i would take her to A&E. same goes for if ur worried about anything. i think mother's instinct is very reliable, if something just isnt right but ur not sure why get her to hosp. even if ur just being para its better to look like a para mummy and feel like a tit than to let LO get worse ill due to uncertainty, thats what i always say.

hope she's better soon, do keep us updated

Hope your both feeling better soon girlies x

she has been asleep for about 20 hours of the last 24- she's still in bed now snoring away!

she's having calpol every 6 hours and nurofen every 8 and she seems a little bit better than yesterday.

I'm dosed up to the eyeballs on Lempsip so we're having a bit of a drug fuelled NYE!

Hopefully the sleeping will be doing her good

Poor you, I'm sure you are exhausted
