So after some serious braxton hicks the early morning of my due date (31st), I had been feeling loads of pressure for the next two days and losing little bits of plug.
I woke up at 11:30 ish the night of the 1st and felt a tiny trickle, then a bit more and suddenly a gush! Screamed for my shocked husband to get a towel and phone hospital while I got a pad on and got dressed!
During the 8 minute journey to hospital I started to get mild contractions.
After arriving at the labour ward with contractions getting steadily stronger my bp and heart rate were checked and midwife gave me an internal during a contraction (omg that hurt).
She said I was 1.5cm dilated and that shed be surprised if anything happened in the next 12 hours so I could either go home or stay on the postnatal ward (but hubby would have to leave!) so I wanted to leave and get in the bath. We waited an hour to leave while midwife went to get me some co codamol and write in my notes. Meanwhile the contractions where getting unbearable and I couldn't breath, when she finally came back my husband said that I was clearly in an incredible amount of pain and the contractions where only minutes apart and she disbelievingly told us that I couldn't stay and there was no way I could have dilated anymore since she checked so I needed to basically man up!
Que me being terrified and wondering how bad the pain needed to be before they would help me!
Home and into bath about 1:40am, hubby rushed around sorting bits out and then sat on the toilet holding my hand
tried to stay quiet through the pains which were about every minute now (some lasting for 5 mins) until around 2:40 when I felt the urge to push!
Told my husband as I just couldn't stop myself but was terrified it was way too early and I would cause damage!!
He phoned the labour ward and they said to call 999, The operator annoyed the hell out of me by telling my husband "don't let her prevent the birth" constantly and "tell her she's doing a good job" 13 mins of this and I could have chucked the phone in the bath! (I wanted this baby out, I was not about to prevent it!!)
Then the ambulance arrived and an amazing paramedic rushed in and had a peak, saying she could see something happening! Got out of the bath quickly and onto the living room floor knelt with my arms on the sofa and hubby sat above me
10 minutes of pushing and the ring of fire arrived! Dear god I do not think I have ever been so terrified! It felt like I was ripping in two and I was screaming that I couldn't take any more!! I got 2 puffs of gas and air which did nothing and then gave another push and her head was born! Some strange wiggles and a breath and out she came at 3:52am weighing 6lbs 5oz
passed through me so daddy and I could get our first look and she was beautiful
2 midwives arrived about ten mins later and I got the injection for my placenta, it wasn't fun getting that pulled out but I didn't care about anything anymore lol
I got a graze up and a second degree tear down, the midwife prepared my sofa and dining chairs for my legs so I could get stitched (terrifying!) but after preparing anaesthetic had another look and decided against stitching (she's had me puff on g&a for 5 mins beforehand so when she told me I thought she was joking I was so out of it!) big relief!
So well done If anyone manages to read all of this! Our girl is a week old now and we're settling into our new lives nicely
Here she is after her second bath
