Hi Ladies,

I have a question regarding the 12 week dating scan which confuses me a lot. I know my last day of first period which was 11th of October and I know I ovulated on the 28th of October 2017 ( ovulation sticks, ovulation pains and EWCM ). I have a shorter luteal phase. According to my calculations this makes my due date 18th of July.

When I had my scan they put me forward by 3 days so due date is 15th of July. I know for a fact when my last period was and when I ovulated ( and had sex ) and since I ovulate late in the cycle I would have thought my due date would be pushed back instead of forward?

Are these scans accurate?

Thanks!

I really wouldn't think twice about that... Baby will most likely be born on a different date all together xx

KHTW is right baby will more than likely be born on a different day , it's just a rough guide my due date has always been different going by my last period.

Thanks! More curious than nothing. Spoke to midwife about this and she said dating scans are accurate ( more accurate than going after what woman says ) which I found a bit patronizing. I know when I had my period and I also know I ovulate very late in my cycle so going after the dates they give means I would have ovulated on day 20 of my cycle which gives me a luteal phase of 8 days which is incorrect. Not sure what to make of it. Perhaps the scans can be off by a couple of days but I would have thought I would measure smaller since I ovulate so late in my cycle.

So if they give me a due date of 15th of July do they mean I really had my first day of last period the 8th of October instead of 11th ( which I know is correct )? or do they say I ovulated 3 days earlier in my cycle than I think ( which I didn't )? I cant have implanted earlier since I got my BFP 7dpo.

confused.

I honest don't know, though did wonder this myself. My original due date was 31st August, which fitted perfectly with my cycle length, date of ovulation and when we DTD. At the scan baby measured 4 days ahead though which messed up all my previous assumptions, but I guess it's nothing to really worry about. :)

You’re probably right about when you ovulated etc, but not every woman will have that info so as standard they measure the size of the baby at around 12 weeks and give you a due date based on that, but babies go through growth spurts and each will grow at a slightly different rate so the date they give you is just a rough guide to time everything around like appointments etc. You could actually have the baby anytime between 37-42 weeks, baby will come when it’s ready.

I would say you’re p ova ly more accurate. But that scans are as accurate as we can get technology-wise. The majority of women aren’t as tuned-in with their cycles as you are, so they need some vaguely accurate form of dating for documentation. Thankfully it’s only 3 days difference anyway, will be interesting to see if babe arrives on your own predicted date instead x

Well - I had my 12 week scan - I thought I may have ovulated almost a week late. And guess what, my due date at the scan was pushed back 6 days - and fit in perfectly with when I thought I ovulated...So I came away thinking, gosh that scan was accurate.

Regardless, you know - babies will come when they want to come. In recent years, I think the friend I know who gave birth closest to her due date gave birth like 4 days before her due date - everyone else gave birth much sooner or later than their due date! I'm thinking- roughly 9 months is probably more true!
