Hey girls! I got the letter from the hospital today and it says that my result falls into the 'Low Risk' category! Great! Am so relieved! :)
But it is strange that they did not actually write the ratio, that is, the actual result...Did that happen to anybody else?

Congratulations on being low-risk...I admit to knowing little to nothing about what the DS tests and results involve so can't help you with the letter etc but phew! So pleased your not really at risk of a DS baby! xxx

Mine did not give the actual result either, it just said it was low!

Great news, you must be relieved! :D

 Congrats Marijana,

I declined the test so I have no info for you either I am afraid, but great news none the less,

Evie xx

yeah, it's strange they don't put the ratio on.
It'd be nice to that you're something like 1 in 40000 rather than 1 in 251 right? Maybe you could give them a call if you really want to know.

I told my midwife that I wanted the test today and so I have to go to the hospital to give the blood. I'm not sure I want it so much if you don't get the actual number back, that was the bit I was interested in seeing!

I think it varies from area to area in how they give the results - also how they intepret them too. When I had my scan they said some hospitals woud have halved my risk because the scan looked normal, but they didn't do that. Maybe they don't give it in figures because you can analyse it to much; like eightball said if it was 1 in 201 (which is 1 away from risk factor in my area) then you might still be really worried. Just my thoughts anyway - so glad you got your results and everything is ok. It's a big weight off your mind isn't it

I think you are right: they definitely have different systems in different areas. A friend of mine from London was sent the ratio as well. Anyway, I am really curious now so I'll probably give them a ring next week. Unless I decide that I don't actually need to know it?! A pregnant woman's mind is such a weird place to be! :D
Anyway, thank you all for kind words and for sharing your experiences!
Keep smiling!

Hi i got my results 2 weeks ago and i got a ratio...

1 chance in 4000 of being downs or spina bifida, i think it depends on the area tbh..

Congrats anyways. now enjoy it... :cheer:

I never got a ratio either which i thought was strange as i did with the others, i am asking my MW on monday if she got the ratio :D

mine had the figures on too, 1:11000 for ds and 27.9 KU/L for sb but dont know what that means- both low risk

We decided not to bother with the test, We wouldnt have done anyhting about it if the result was bad so why give us something else to worry about?

I've just noticed: my letter didn't even mention spina bifida?! Am I to expect another letter about this? I am definitely calling MW on Monday!

My letter said that I have a low risk of having a baby with DS or spina bifida. But the ratio quoted, 1 in 50,000, referred to DS only.

i didnt get the ratio results hun i had to phone up for them

Congratulations on the great result :)

I had the Nuchal scan and they gave me a ratio of 1 in 208 - high (which meant I went on for the CVS test).

Seems the Nuchal scan isn't offered in all areas either. NHS is very confusing at times

congrats on gettin a low risk result :)

we get told the ratio in this area

I think there are variations in the services offered by the NHS depending on your area. I believe this is due to each NHS Trust having their own budgets, and therefore those that decide on the budgeting get the say so on which services to provide.
