Double Buggy - worth it with a toddler?

Hi

When this baby is born my DS will be 2.5years old. He doesn't really use his buggy much, only to have a snack and a rest really. I'm going to get a buggy board for my travel system which he will enjoy riding I think but I don't know whether I should look at getting a double buggy for any times that I just need him to sit still whilst I shop - you know what I mean

I'm off to the states on holiday in a few weeks and my favourite brand of buggy is 50% cheaper over there so I could actually buy a new double buggy for the cost of a second hand one over here! Contemplating brining one back in the hold but I don't want to if it might not be worth it.

Are they a vital godsend with a baby and a toddler or not really if toddler isn't a fan of a buggy anyway? x

I have a 2.5 year old who won't go in the buggy ever, I have a double thought because when her brother was born she was 15 months so obviously I needed it for both of them. When baby three arrives my son will be 18 months but as he currently isn't a confident walker I'm sure he will be in it longer. So it depends on the child I think! X

My nearly 3 year old still goes in the buggy if he's been doing lots of walking but I usually sit him in the basket as he only uses it as a quick rest stop. I'm glad I got a double though as there is 14 months between these two and DS2 still isn't a great walker at nearly 2 so he will probably need to sit down occasionally.

If your chosen buggy is half the price over there, you might as well get it. Better to have it than not!

DS was not quite 3 when DD was born and he would have had epic fits if he didn't get to ride, even when he hated the stroller the day before she was born.

I'd go for a double just in case your older one decides if baby rides, I ride also.

Another vote for a double here. I have the uppababy vista & it's awesome. 19 months between my girls, and I still use it to contain the threenager if I'm out on my own with them. Saves me having to abandon the buggy & leg it when she does a runner in ASDA

I'm going to get one. I fancy the nipper 360 but I've had two friends say it's really bad for leaning with the different weights. Think I'm going to buy a clip on seat for my existing pram which goes behind the original seat so will be an inline one x

You can get away without one but life is so much easier with one. Once I got a proper one, my life seemed so much simpler. I had a 21 month gap between my first two. Now I seem to have accumulated all forms of baby transport....uppababy 2013 with rumble seat, a proper tandem, a side by side, buggy board, baby carrier, baby backpack.....so embarrassing. Mums at the school always laugh as i seem to have a different travel method each week. I blame it on not getting a proper double from the start.

Just to comment on the good part, buggies and travel systems always go in the hold. You can just ask to take them to the gate and then they will put it in the hold just before you get into the plane. Some airports support it even that you can reclaim them as you come out rather than waiting until the baggage reclaim belt which is fantastic. But if you don't take any other pram or folding buggy you'd not have to book it separately.

Yeah I've had it (when I had a single) that the pram was on the Tarmac at the bottom of the steps of the plane. Unfortunately I was alone and when I got to the airport building it turned out you needed to go up and downstairs with no lift and there was no one to help me so that was rough with a ten week old baby!
Also a friend of mine went to NYC and another family had done the pram thing with one similar to hers (same colour and about the same size) but there's was much older and and damaged. When they got to the other end the other family had taken my friends brand new one (no way they could have genuinely thought it was theirs) and she ended up having to rent a new pram while she was over there as she refused to take something that wasn't hers! X

I suppose if it's cheaper over there you'd get you're money back by selling it here if it didnt work out. Im not sure ill bother... I have struggled to shop with my travel system locally let alone a double so i might have baby in a wrap/ carrier and toddler in the buggy, he's just Walking now almost so i think he'll want to walk a lot when baby arrives but thats only really possible if he will wear his reigns/backpack too risky without.

My eldest was out of his buggy from 2.5 I occasionally used it after during really bad weather.

Personally I'd prob just get the single but then I don't drive. Just don't fancy taking a dual buggy out if the eldest wouldn't use it. Could you perhaps wear baby if the older one needed the buggy?

We have 2y 2m between my two and J went onto a buggy board (the sitting down type) when baby arrived. Feel a bit bad now as it was middle of winter but he was fine and has no lasting emotional damage
