Does anyone use a doppler? I ordered one yesterday, I am supposed to recieve it tomorow morning and I can't wait  . Is the sound really good? ever had any problems with it?

I think it depends what one you get tbh but I think if it's a doppler they're better than the prenatal listening things you get. My mum works for NHS so I use the same one my MW uses - I'm a cheat!

Hi laetitia,

I ordered a Doppler on Wednesday too (from ebay)! I got mine yesterday morning and tried it out a few times yesterday and again this morning before I got out of bed. I found the heartbeat each time. I'm 11 weeks' pregnant. Well, at least I THINK it's the heartbeat! :D I tried it on my own heart first to get used to my own heart sound, then tried it on my abdomen, very low down, starting in line with my belly button, but nearer to my pubic bone. Each time, I have found the heartbeat nearer the left hand side.

I bought the doppler with the heart rate display (it cost £39 new). The trouble is, when you have to point is so low down (and you're lying down to use it), you can't see the display - how useless is that? Luckily, it has a "freeze" button so you can lock the display and then read it. I was worried that I keep getting different heart rates: 142, 147, 157, 128 etc. but I've just read that anything between 120-160 is normal. Phew!

I had also read about the different noises in the womb and it's remarkably noisy in there! I also tried the doppler on my leg (for research purposes! :D ) and there was no noise, so it must really work.

I was going to pay for another private scan as I was worried about my disharge being brownish/pinkish at times - I thought something was wrong - but, for now, with the reassurance of the doppler, I'm content to wait for my first NHS scan, so it's probably saved me money.

Once I really get the hang of it, I'll let my partner and older children listen to the heart beat. At the moment, it's nice to know that my baby is in there and still doing okay (touch wood!).

I didn't hear anything relaiable until about week 13, so don't panic if you can't here anything. The baby should still be behind your pubic bone and so the sound won't travel. It is lovely to have for reassurance once you do here it though!

thanks for all your stories. My doppler works really well, I find the heart beat each time I use it
