Hi,
I got a doppler as a gift and I was just wondering - how do you use it?

Where do you put it (at my stage) and what should I hear, I tried on Sat but think I just heard my heartbeat????

Thanks

I would say between your belly button and the top of your pubic bone sometimes to the left or right, it can also help to tilt the probe around aswell as that can help you find it. Have a play around with it, a little perseverance and you will find it.

To tell if your hearing your own heartbeat take your pulse at the same time and its the same then you know its your own, babys is much faster and sounds like horses galloping!

This website might help, someone posted this for me when I had trouble:

Thanks, think ill try again, but Im scared of freaking myself out if I cant find it, might wait a week.

Hi,

I used my Angel Sounds Doppler at 17 weeks for the first time.

you need a transmission gel like they use in hosptal when you have a scan. I bought 2 bottles on ebay for £1.99 each. If you don't have any you could experiment with something similar found in the kitchen!! Maybe olive oil???

I heard the heartbeat about an inch diagonally down from my tummy button.

It will be beating between 140-160 beats per minute so is a lot faster than your own pulse. You will hear your own pulse in the placenta. I always think the baby's heart beat sounds like galloping horses! Some say a steam train.

You could probably do a google search for fetal heartbeats and hear some examples. I have a recording of my baby's but not sure how to attach it. Is it like the photos?

Good luck and happy listening!

I have the angelsound one, I got free gel with it, we have that gel in work anyway so ill just nick a bit. Im going to give it a go again tonight, ill let you know how i get on.

I heard it :cheer: :cheer: well I think I did, to me it didnt sound like horses - it sounded like a heartbeat, but fast - is this it, im nearly sure it was much faster than mine, I couldnt check my pulse at the same time coz I kept losing it when I tried.

Only thing after all the poking about I have a pain in my lower abdo now so I do hope I didnt do any harm

i had the worst pain after my scan when the nurse was poking about with the scanner, and the pain lasted all night.. think its just because your uterus is sensitive and nothing really touches it all your life until you start poking around it! :D

i was worried about it too
i had it from straight after the scan at 10am until the next morning and then it went, so i knew it was nothing serious, just all the prodding on your muscles etc xx
