Having an eeyore-ish day today. 12dpo...no sign that I'm pregnant. Third cycle TTC after early mc...I've put on half a stone since it happened and now have BMI of nearly 28. I'm 43 in November and I just can't see this happening.

Every time I go low carb it messes up my hormones and I don't have proper AF and I am not able to exercise. Feeling a bit stuck and hopeless. Am eating very sensibly - chicken salad for breakfast, fish finger sandwich and salad for lunch, and brown rice and pulses with meat for dinner. Don't feel like there's anything else I could do.

Are you counting calories? To lose weight you need to be burning off more than you consume. A fish finger sandwich has more calories that'll you'd think.

I follow SW to get me into the habit of cooking from scratch, choosing filling foods etc. I couldn't give up carbs, I like them too much!

I am so sorry sunflower I really understand you. I am 40 in August and I can’t even imagine how frustrating it must be for you. I also feel like it’s never going to happen especially when you are in your 40s. My deadline for getting pregnant was 40 but it’s never going to happen so now I am hoping to get pregnant by 41. My bmi is 26 and I am so trying to get down below 25. I am not sure if bmi affects fertility that much as I see obese women pregnant or have kids. The most frustrating thing is not knowing why it’s not happening. I know you and me can get pregnant again as we did and had a miscarriage I am not sure if this gives you any consolation. Has you husband got his sperm count checked?

Also we are on holiday at the moment and all I see is couples with 2 young kids. They have no idea how lucky they are ...

He had it checked at the start of the year and it was good but he's put on weight since then, although he is trying to get it down. I was told weight is a bigger issue the older you get but not sure about just being a stone or so overweight. The problem is weightloss itself can mess up your fertility so it's choosing whether to go ahead at this weight or take 4 months out and do a low carb diet and start again with a better BMI. Because u r supposed to be more fertile for 6 months after a mc I'm inclined to try and take advantage but no luck so far.

What do u eat for lunch? The fish finger sandwiches are all gluten free so lower than wheat ones. I am counting carbs not calories...don't know if I need to keep an eye on calories too...

Keep an eye on gluten free stuff as it normally has added sugar and calories.at the heart of it weight loss is simple in the sense that you need to to burn more calories than you are putting into your body. There is no right or wrong diet to follow... But that is basic science. So whichever plan you choose, you need to be doing that.

My lunches vary. I have a lot of carbs though so probably won't suit what you are doing. I have jacket potatoes, salads, pasta, sometimes I make a cooked breakfast. Always make sure I have lots of veg along with whatever I'm eating

Sunflower I am so sorry. I have watched countless women find immense success with hormone regulation and fertility by doing a whole30. I’ve done a few and the benefits are unbelievable. You could get the book but there are so many online resources (the forum especially) that I don’t think you need to actually buy anything. I feel amazing whenever I’m doing one and it really does seem to help with fertility, too. Sending you and Maximus so much warmth and luck.

They do say the 6 months after miscarriage is the most fertile so let’s see if that will apply to me. I hardly doubt it. I lost all hope even if I do get pregnant I won’t be happy will at least 12 weeks

Thanks Knoll. I've read about that before, but without grains it looks quite low carb and that tends to totally mess up my hormones. I extremely low sugar and zero dairy already. Really glad it's helped you. Is it basically vegetables and meat/fish?

I know how you feel. I hope you get another BFP soon and hope it sticks xxx

Sunflower, there are no grains but I definitely eat a ton of carbs when I do one, as I eat potatoes and sweet potatoes, all kinds of fruit etc. It’s easy not to go low-carb while doing a whole30.

I have to respectfully disagree with the counting calories thing, the calories in/calories out model is not what we should focus on - focus on macronutrients. WHAT you eat matters. You will lose weight and get healthier on a whole30, while you’re eating way more calories, because of how your body can use that food. 100 calories of skittles is not 100 calories of steak. Your body won’t store or use those two things the same way.

I’m so sorry to hear you’re feeling down, I hope it will pass for you soon. A lot of people who go low carb have erratic cycles for a while (especially if it’s ketogenic) because of the effect it has on estrogen, it does settle after a while though.
I always go low carb, it’s the only thing that helps to get my cycles anywhere near regular, but that means I can sometimes have a 4000 calorie dinner! But it maintains me at a bmi of 23. I’ll be 37 next month so also feeling the pressures of age. Really hoping things look up for you soon and you get your sticky bfp x

Sorry you're feeling down. You will get your baby eventually!! But with your diet, you shouldn't count carbs you should count overall calories and make sure carbs are only accounting for 50% of them, the rest should be protein and healthy fats. Low carb diets aren't good for your hormones or brain function and they make you far more likely to gain the weight back when you stop (I have a degree in nutrition so I do know what I'm on about). Fish fingers are processed rubbish so not the best thing to be eating regularly if you're trying to be in optimal health for a baby! You could easy swap to an egg or tuna sandwich to make it healthier :) I know you didn't ask for health advice so sorry if I've overstepped! I just want to help.

Thank you. Are sausages not good either?

Hey Sunflower how are you? Just popping by to say hi x

It would really depend on the brand. You can get lean sausages that are alright, but generally sausages are very high in fat as that's what makes them taste good. Not something you'd want to eat on a daily basis, but fine once a week. x

We get good quality ones. I read fat was good for TTC. I don't have them often.
