Hi,just wondered if anyone had any experience with getting bitten by a dog whilst pregnant? I've got an appointment at an urgent care centre at 6:30pm tonight but unsure if there is anything they can do as most vaccines and antibiotics may not be suitable for pregnant women!

Some antibiotics like amoxicillin are fine to take while pregnant, so mostly they'll access the wound and determine if you need any care such as stitches and determine if you're at risk of rabies. I'm not sure if the rabies vaccine is suitable for pregnancy, but if they say it is they may suggest it to be safe.

I think it'll mostly be dependant on the severity of the bite, the type of dog, and whether or not the dog is likely to be carrying anything as to whether they do anything at all. They may just dress the wound and give you aftercare advice. You've definitely done the right thing to be seen by UCC though just to be sure. Fingers crossed it's nothing to worry about :)

As firstfreakout says. You've definitely done the right thing getting seen. Hope everything is ok.

Hi. Thanks for replying! They gave me anti biotics incase of infection. Just got to keep it covered and go straight back if I see anything changing in the look of the wound or how I feel in myself. The doctor didn't seem too concerned, however the pharmacist did when I went to pick up the meds! Hopefully all will be okay though!

Glad they were on top of it. Hopefully the antibiotics keep any infection away and it heals nicely :)
