So I went to see my GP about my yeast infection so I told her my fertile windows is approaching and when I can start trying again. She said you don’t need to do have sex so far in advance of your ovulation. She said 2 days before and 2 days after is sufficient. Is this right? I thought 5 days before and 1 days after ovulation is when I am fertile. What do you think?

I think you’re right! No idea where she’s got that from.

My OBGYN said the more you have sex, the less potent the sperm is. I agree with your doctor. You always here how people who are having problems getting pregnant are the ones having tons of sex. It was recommended to me to have my hubby stock up for a day or two and then have sex 2-3 days before ovulation and again after ovulation. Make sure you are getting a positive OT because those fertility calendars are usually just estimates of when you are ovulating. Mine is always wrong.

Your fertile period IS from 5 days before as sperm can live for 5 days and then one day after as the egg only lives for 12-24 hours once released. They say DTD every other day around this time is enough.
So your doctor saying 2 days before makes sense but 2 days after would just be to cover bases in case you ovulate slightly later I guess.

I think it's how you interpret it. As sperm can live for up to 5 days, you can be fertile 5 days before ovulation. Also you don't know exactly when you will ovulate and it's better to have sperm ready and waiting. I think statistically your most fertile days are 1-2 days before ovulation. Also some say too much sex doesn't allow the sperm time to recover so every other day is better than every day.

Based on how long we've been trying and the fact that I have regular cycles, we've decided to reign it in a bit now and go for less is more.

I think less is more too. When I got pregnant with my daughter we only did it 2 times before ovulation and 1 after so I think it’s mostly luck to be honest

Interesting reading Girls,

I agree every other day in the Conception time frame as it’s best to let Sperm levels build back up & also for the man not to hold on to the Sperm no longer than say four days while not in the Baby making phase! this is what I’m doing to make sure I’m keeping my Sperm at its freshest & keep it producing high quantity.

Sperm only tend to live for 2 days or 3 days in warmer weather. But if you are not 100 per cent sure when your ovulation is (and most people aren't) then you can start a bit earlier. Also, 2 days after is weird - the egg only lives 24 hrs...but again I guess this covers not knowing exactly when it is.

hiya yes we normally stop BD on my second peak day, and maybe I am ovulating later so this month I will try to BD one extra day, but usually we are knackered by than, so maybe just not as much BD like 5 days before peak, start 2 days before peak this month

I was told every other day by my doctor for the whole cycle!! I nearly fell off my seat!

Hehe, my GP said the same to me. I did nearly laugh out loud when he asked 'would that be a problem for you?' (he did then clarify he meant that some couples cant manage because one of them travels alot with work)
