Did any of your babies react to their first taste of veg?

Hello everyone! Our babies are growing so fast now!

This week we have had the major excitement of starting solids! We captured the whole thing on video and Samuel is taking to it quite well!

My question is, we are three days into it and samuel is just on baby rice for now. I am obviously very excited about the idea of trying him on some carrot or something, but worried that his system might not like it.

Has anyone had any problems with starting on the fruit and veg and how long do you think I should leave it before I start him on something other than rice?

Thanks :D

hi sarah i gave matthew a week of baby rice so he's tum got used to processing something other than milk, then moved onto single things like carrot but would mix with milk and baby rice, then just gave that one thing for a few days before trying something else, gradually i have increased the amount he has and mix things together and very rairly use baby rice unless i dont think he has had enough milk in the day then i mix some in with baby rice. Matthew has not had any problems and will eat anything he's given carrot is a fav as is apple and pear!

Same as Michelle really, started on baby rice then added carrot which she did not like at first, as soon as she was eating that ok (about 4 days) I tried something else then I gave her porridge for bfast.
Her tum has been ok, her poo pongs a bit more tho and is more adult like!

Oh god have i been doing it wrong? Ive only used baby rice 2ce......its discusting so i thought it would be nicer to go straight on to yummy stuff. Hes tried carrot, parsnip, apple, pear, butternut squash and mango.........loves them all!

Thanks guys.

I doubt you have been doing it wrong fayebelina. I agree with you, the baby rice smells horrible!

I am really keen to try samuel on something else to see his reaction, but might wait a few more days.

The DH wants to wait a few more weeks! I can't wait that long! :D Now that we have started the weaning I want to try him on everything! I think we will do a vindaloo next

A friend lent me the Annabel Karmen (sp) book the other day and it said in there that if a baby screws up their face to begin with it doesn't necessarily mean they don't like the food, just that they're getting used to the taste. Ella's pulled some mean faces since she's had solids  You wait til you try him with brocolli ;)
