Just wondering if anyone has any experience of Diamorphine?

Im planning a water birt at the moment but seen as i can not have epidural or petadine I have been trying to find a back up plan should I find I just can not cope with the pain.

Im a bit unsure about giving my baby heroin but from what iv read it depends on the stage of labour its give at how much it will effect the baby but I dont know how ture this is?????

Dunno if it's the same really but a friend of mine is on daily morphine for a spinal disease. She was told she would have a grumpy baby for a few days but there was no health risk xxxxxx

I had it and it didn't do much apart from make me sleepy in between contractions. It didn't have any effect on my little princess either.
It can effect people in different ways though, just keep an open mind, if you feel you need some pain relief, trust me you will ask for it x x

I thought diamorphine was FANTASTIC! It totally relaxed me and made everything pain free. I got a warm fuzzy feeling shortly after getting it - I didn't actually know that the street name for it is HEROINE! I may have thought twice about getting it if I had.... In saying that when it had worn off and my contractions and back pain kicked in again I did ask for a second shot but it turns out you are not allowed 2 shots of it within 4 hours so I ended up having an epidural - this I would not recommend....

The diamorphine had no after effect on me or my daughter - if you can't take pethadine etc I would strongly recommend it. The epidural has left me with back pain that I didn't have prior to labour...

I had diamorphine and had the warm fuzzy feeling and felt really relaxed, I also had the epidural and I haven't had any back pain, and my boy was find just sleepy but he's a sleepy boy anyway at the min 2 weeks later! Everything is different for everyone, I didn't plan on having anything really as I wanted a water birth but as he'd done a poo inside me I had to be constantly monitored so all my plans went out the window and I just ended up going with whatever xx

Thanks girls thats reassured me a good bit

Like I say I am planning on trying to go au natural but want as much info as I can get on the options should I need them, Congrats to you 2 who only just had your lo's :) and fair play still having time to post that also helps hehehe

I cant / Wont get the epidural due to a large tattoo on my back and unconfirmed opinions on the safety of that, Along with the fact that I allready suffered with back pain.

Here's hoping the pool will be available and I can cope withough any druge :)

Yeah fx for you, I really wanted the pool just to see how it was I think it'd be really relaxing :)

Yeah, I have plenty of time to post at the min it's like looking after a toy doll with mine! Give it a few weeks and he'll be screaming the house down I bet xx

I had some sort of morphine given to me after my operation in December. It made my teeth chatter and whole body shake and I hated it. Obvs good for pain relief but doesn't suit everyone. Tbh I couldn't say if it was diamorphine tho x

I'm allergic to it too so wouldn't want it given to me during labour when ur too much in pain to realize what's going on! They gave me two shots of pethadine with Jaycee and I didnt even know til I saw all the holes in my leg after lol! Pethadine done sod all for me so it would be good to try something else!

Sounds like diamorphine to me ;)

i didnt know they would give it to you during labour, i had it during my last labour but the baby was still so it was fairly irrelevant

It was great actually, perfect for what it was being used for, to give me a complete calm about the awful situation i was in

they can dose you up every 2 hours too which is nice.

i might ask for some if i have to have stiches next time then ;)

Oh are the holes in your legs your reaction to the Codien? I just go horrible in my head and loose vision n pb drops n all sorts of horibleness lol

codine is an opiate so has the same source as diamorphine, i would imagine if codine messes you up, diamorphine would mess you up more x

Yeah just googled it and Diamorphine will be a no go for me too :-( feck

Well guess il just have to go with the water birth even thought iv been getting verry stressed the last few days, I dont know what i was thinking saying I could cope ok with water birth because I know my own body and while I do like certain pain and am fine with tattoo type pain i know im not gonna cope at all with labour pains ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I am Crap with pain and i did a 27 hour labour with just gas n air.

just remember to moan loooowwww not high (if you moan high it tightens everything up, while low moaning opens everything up :) )

take it one step at a time and focus on the prize :)

No it was the needle pricks for pethadine and the jab that gets the placenta out.. So I wasn't aware I had it!!

I was given codeine for my migraines and omg never again will I touch that stuff I was bed bound and thought I was dying!! Looks like diamorphine is a no go for me too then :(

you might be able to have Tramadol, its a synthesised Opiate replacement.
