Hey girls,

I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning and its with a new dentist as I signed up to an NHS one (as I am normally private). Do you know if I need to take my pregnancy notes with me? Do we get charged anything??

Also have any of you had any treatment whilst pregnant?? I am having really bad wisdom teeth problems and have a feeling it might need to be taken out :o(

Thanks girls,
Dx

i dont have to take anything with me but iv been with my dentist a while as for treatments i think it varys from dentist to dentist mine wont do anything needing an injection as he prefers to wait till after birth but some will do if it needed best bet to ring surgery and ask if you need to take anything with you

You will have got a card to get you free prescriptions, it also gives you free dentist. I had a wisdom tooth out last month and 2 fillings, they know what can and can't be used during pregnancy.

I didn't take any pain killers after my extraction, I just slept it off.

I was at the dentist last when I was 28 weeks and she wanted to take one of my wisdom teeth out with a local anesthetic - never had any work done so refused! lol! I'm waiting until after baby is born, then i'll be going under general anesthetic x

I waited for my dental treatment until after I had baby but they can advise what is safe, as I think you get treatment free for like up to a year after the birth of baby. If it is something cosmetic like a scrape and polish, they will charge you for that as this is consider this 'private' treatment.

hey,
take ur NHS maternity exemption car dwith you as they'll need the number off it to get free treatment. ur tretment will also be free for a year after your baby is born.
most dentists like to try and put treatment off untill the baby is born but if your in pain they will sort the pain out for you
i'm a dental nurse by the way :-) x
