well on thursday i had to go to dentist to have my bridge refitted and the dentist thought i had a infection in my gum so asked if she could do an xray

well i told her i was pregnant and asked if it would be ok, she said it was facing away from the baby so should be fine,

however since i have read that it is such a small amount of radiation there is no way it could affect the baby and i also read she should have put me on a lead apron.

an experience on this and were your babies ok?

im really worried, help :wall:

I dont know for sure but was always under the impression that dentists shouldnt give you xrays while pregnant?!
I hope someone has more info for you hun!   Im sure everything will be ok!! You dentist should know what they are doing!

My midwife said dental x-rays were fine. I haven't had any but was trying to find a new dentist and knew they would want to do x-rays when and if I joined.

Don't worry - I needed a dental x-ray and asked the advice of a consultant radiologist who I work with who reassured me that its harmless (obviously better to go without at all) but if it cant be avoided, its only a tiny x-ray and its away from the baby. They should cover you with a lead apron but there is also evidence to say that some of the x-ray scatter can get trapped underneath so I dont think it matters either way.

Personally, because I was so breathless and was admitted to hospital a few weeks ago, I had to have a chest x-ray and a VQ scan and even then I was reassured that the x-ray dose was too small to harm the baby
