Demaris's labour thread..

I'm now on the labour ward waiting to be checked, pessary has been in half an hour. Once we have checked in its time to eat we are starving! I am 1cm dilated so it's a start :-)

Hope all is going well and that maybe u are having cuddles with your LO already xxx

Hope it all went well last night. Waiting for an update... X

Hello everyone, Jago Graham O'Connor was born at 2.03 am last night (17th March) after a very short labour.

I was given a pessary at 12:30 pm, it's a new way of induction Where the pessary is like a tampon and it can be removed if the hormone works to fast. It also worked really quick, by 2:30 I was having pains every 30 secs that were quite intense. I was told this was not labour but was the pessary softening the cervix. I have to say at this point I was worried as I didn't think I could handle this and then start labour afterwards! By ten o'clock they checked my cervix and I was still only 1cm I was pretty gutted.

I asked for pain relief but as I was still on the early labour ward there was no gas and air etc. so I was given diamorphine, that was enough to take the edge off the contractions and let me dose in and out of sleep.

They didn't think anything would happen over night so sent Liam home for a sleep. We live about 20 miles from the hospital but can be an hours drive with the traffic.

When the diamorphine wore off about 1am the contractions (which they still said wasn't labour) hit me with a force and I was examined and seen to be dilated 4cm. so they decided I was ready for the delivery suite and they went and got me some gas and air. Just before two I was wheeled out of the room and halfway down the corridor I said I needed to push. They didn't believe me, I still had blankets over me and in one push his head came out. I told them his head was out and they whipped back the covers to see him being born on the bed! So apparently I went from 4 cm to him being born in roughly half a minute! It was a big rush to get everything up to the ward as they put me in a side room. So nothing went to plan, no sliding scale insulin for me, no cannula and no special baby area set up for baby. Thankfully everything was fine, he is fit and well and apart from some stitches so am I :)

Just waiting now for him to do his first proper wee wee and then we can come home.

Not sure how to get a photo up here but I will wor k it out tonight. This little man has stolen my heart xxx

Huge congratulations!! So glad it all went well for you :) xxx

Christie he was 8.5 lb :)

I.love yes Liam did miss the birth :( they rang him when they realised I was 4 cm and he left straight away but Jago was born not long after. So he arrived just in time to see me getting embroidered! I don't think anyone guessed he was going to come so quick :) xx
