Hi

I'm 42 years old and we're TTC to conceive our first baby since July 2012, I've had 2 missed miscarriages at 10 and 11 weeks. We're not having fertility treatment but I got my hormones tested on Day 2 of my cycle to check my levels.

I got my Day 2 bloods done on Monday and my GP has just given me a print out to bring to my consultant on Monday.

The results are as follows, they're within the normal ranges, but I'm wondering if they are good or bad as I'm 42 so I'm worried that I may stop ovulating.

I also got AMH (Anti Mullerian Hormone) tested but the result is not back for it yet.

Day 2 Bloods

FSH : 6.6 U/l

LH : 4.3 U/L

Oestradiol : 86 pmol/l or 23.43pg/mL

Thanks Louise

Its been a while since I was looking at all my blood results etc so I don't want to make out I know too much about the levels. However, and this sounds like a weird thing to say, but when I was miscarrying (and this happened a few times) I was told to try and look at it that I'm nearly there, its not like its not happening at all. This didn't really comfort me, but in hindsight I get what the doctor meant. He said to me "you just need a good strong egg and you'll be fine" And eventually I got my good egg and I had my son. I'm no doctor, but you may just find that you get the good egg and bang you're away, or maybe a round of clomid to boost a good egg along and that will mean your bean will stick. I guess what I'm saying is, I know how you feel but stay positive. You WILL get there. x

Thanks Lara, I sorta get what you mean, my Obstet. said my MMC's may just be nature's way of looking after a baby with a problem. Like yours he said if you get a strong egg and a strong sperm the baby will hopefully stick with us. Fingers crossed we get a sticky healthy baby bean soon. So much has changed in my life over the last 3 years, I never pictured myself having children then I met my hubby and everything changed, with each MMC my desire to have a healthy baby has increased so I hope we are blessed with one. Lots of congrats on your baby boy :-) you must be thrilled x

After each loss it gets harder doesn't it, and it becomes your whole focus, which is really difficult because its so important to keep stress levels down. I remember being just petrified at my 6 week scan because although I'd had a previous later miscarriage (12 weeks) the last 2 had been lost before even seeing a heartbeat. And you realise how massive that is when you have lost before.
Have you had a look online at those levels?
You don't have PCOS or anything like that do you? x x

Hi Lara, no PCOS, after 2nd MMC my Obstet. did all RMC tests, scan and hysteroscopy and all came back clear. The only slight complication I have is a treated Underactive Thyroid, I take meds each day so it shouldn't cause any problems.

Although all my results came back clear Obstet recommended if I get BFP to take baby aspirin and progesterone pessaries.

I had a look online the hormone results all seem spot on (they appear to be very good considering I'm 42) however everything I read says that even if results are really good my egg quality could be bad. Reading the stuff on the IVF websites is pretty depressing if you're over 42 so I try my best to avoid.

We had decided we weren't having IVF as the odds are bad at my age and also anytime I took the contraceptive pill in the past it didn't suit me so I don't want to take the hormones. All I'm taking is my folic acid and eltroxin. FX this might be the month x

I also have an interactive thyroid. What's your level. I only conceived once I adjusted my levels it may have been coincidence but my endocrinologist said he likes to see levels at 1 for pregnancy. This may be controversial and gps may not know about this sort of thing but I then had to up my thyroxine to get me nearer to 1 rather than 2.5.

Stick to a really clean diet ~ avoid processed rubbish and high sugar which messes with our hormones. X

Ooh I also did aspirin and took that until 34 weeks x

Thanks for all the info, I need to cut out sugar I've put on weight over the last year and half so I need to shift it.

My Endocrinologist I have now is really good, he also wants to keep me between 0.5 and 1.5 whilst TTC and under 2.5 if I get pregnant

During my first pregnancy my TSH went high but GP wouldn't increase Eltroxin even though I had printed out reports from the web. I insisted I got to see a Endo but by the time I got to him baby had no heartbeat (At the time I was so annoyed with GP and my private Gynea as she wouldnt see me until 13 weeks)

I changed to new hospital and new Obstet. for my 2nd pregnancy, although I had another MMC they were very supportive, my Obstet. is a really nice man.

I went underactive after Christmas so Endo. has adjusted my dose so we were back TTC last month. The increased dose has definitely impacted my cycle normally I ovulate Day 18 to Day 23 whereas in Feb I ovulated Day 15 and March Day 16.

I'm hoping we might get lucky over next 3 months otherwise I'll be back with Obstet. to see what might help us.

Thanks for sharing your details, I'll try and reduce my sugar from here on in.

If you are TTC at the moment wish you lots of :dust: x

Hi, my results are:

Oestradiol 73 pmol/L
LH 8.9
FSH 6.2

So similar to yours and I'm told they're all fine and normal. My progesterone was 51.6 and AMH 35.9 (AMG took three weeks to come back) xx
