Pointless post really, but today is my first day of maternity leave and I am in GOOD SPIRITS!

I've felt a bit crap mostly while being pregnant with one thing and another, but feel quite lucky and good at the moment :D I'm moving about better now than I was a few weeks ago, SPD has pretty much done a bunk for now, my bump isn't particularly big so not really in the way, I'm getting comfy fine and :nap: well. All sounds too easy huh!

I'm full of joy about my house looking nice - hubby has almost finished decorating our bedroom and once that's done I'll be cock-a-hoop! My brother moved out last weekend so we'll still have a double bedroom that needs decorating but it's only going to be a spare so no rush, and just got my new sexy cooker dropped off so will have a sexy looking kitchen in a few days once that's fitted.

I had a lovely last day at work yesterday - my team spoiled me rotten, got a few little cards and one big one signed by everyone, got >£150 which is amazing and a load of outfits and stuff for the baby, a locket from my boss to put a pic of my mam and baby in, and got taken out for my dinner to lovely restaurant . Oh and a massive beautiful bouquet containing mostly lilies and roses .

I've had my feet nibbled and massaged this morning, am going to go for a walk with the dog in the sun and exchange a lampshade and lamps for our newly decorated bedroom - I feel this is exactly the kind of thing to be doing on maternity leave hehe, and I have another scan tomorrow to check on :baby:. Feels like she's moving a bit different over the past few days so am a teensy bit concerned about my waters levels (last week it was noticed they've dropped) but also glad they're checking tomorrow.

Long post!!

How's everyone elses maternity leaves / being off going? Do you think my nesting and home improvement urges will die away or get worse? lol

:dust: for all!

Aww lovely to read that all is slotting into place for you! I didn't ever have any mat leave before having Ella and hubby went back to work yesterday after Easter hols (only for three days though as he starts paternity next week!) so I've felt a bit strange at home alone with baby! It's lovely just need to develop my own routine - nice today as I popped into work so that they could meet Ella - def going to try and get out somewhere every day xx

Sounds like you have had a lovely first day of Maternity leave!

I really need to look for a place here that has nibbling fish lol

My leave starts 3rd May - however due to Bank Holidays etc tomorow is my last day at work - Can't wait to join you Cantstop!

Jodied - I hope you are enjoying every minute of it hun

xx

I'm pleased to read that your first day has went well! This is my 3rd week off work and i'm settling in nicely - was fretting at the start but work is slowly fading away....

MY Mat Leave starts 3rd May as well.. I didn't go in to work due to use and abuse me yesterday with pile of work to do...where I work dont give you the sympathy of doubt even though if you faint infront of them wont care just say "you right, you sure okay back to work" I stand on my hand for too long so I said to myself health more important... since only a day left I rather skip it...enjoy my early maternity lol...am I being selfish?

Jodie - I was quite worried about not getting any time to myself before the baby comes but really, it just means you get more time with her which can only be a nice thing! It's great you're both getting out and about and into your own routine already. My DH is taking two weeks paternity from labour and possibly a week holiday too, so I think when he gets back to work we'll finally start to settle down into a routine. Have to wait and see for that though!

Miss - I was originally meant to be starting mine same time as you but my wonderful boss told me not to bother coming in today and tomorrow because she's off anyway and my leaving meal was yesterday so I virtually snatched her hand off  I have got one database to create for her but am doing that from home sometime over the next week.

Rose - glad to hear it! I'm hoping for settling in and being cool ready for baby too. Hubby wants baby to come NOW but I'm happy to chug along for a bit first.

Ayesha - you're not being selfish, if they can't even be genuinely concerned for your wellbeing fuck em, if you've only got till the end of the week to get to and you don't care about the job, just put yourself first!

My cooker arrived :yay: and hubby is finishing the glossing in our room now :yay: so should get the carpet down tomorrow - I can't wait to get back in and make it all nice! Room will have 3 biscuit coloured walls, one ruby red wall, charcoal coloured carpet and curtains, black light shade and lamps, white woodwork and cream wardrobes - think a black bed spread will look a bit gothy? I don't think I'll be able to get a suitable red one that won't clash with the wall...

I finished work last Thursday but it's not hit me yet that I don't have to go back for the next 10 months!

We went out yesterday and bought the remaining bits for the baby we needed, and I've arranged for my Dad to come round next week and help OH build the crib etc.

Had a consultant appointment today, where my fluid has gone back up, my BP was a little high and there was blood in my urine so they think I may have an infection. Been told to rest to try and bring my fluid back down.

I packed Baby's and my hospital bags today too. Gonna do some light housework tomorrow morning and then take it easy for the rest of the day.

So far am loving not working!!!

Sounds like you were treated very well by your company with all of those presents. My last day at work is tomorrow. I can't wait. Hope you enjoy the rest of your maternity leave xx

Roo - what was the problem with your fluid levels if you don't mind me asking? Mine (around the baby) were discovered to have 'significantly reduced' last week - was yours the same and have gone back up? Or is it something else entirely? It's the perfect reason to go easy on the housework though if you've been told to take it easy :D Hope your infection gets sorted soon - it's scary this close to the end! I'm not back at work for 13 months but when I go back I don't know where I'll be going due to me working for the Council and them re-shuffling so I'm not thinking about it at all.

Riotfox - treated so well, I felt really overwhelmed by how nice everyone was, especially cos I wouldn't say I was particularly friendly with a lot of them who must have contributed. So sweet. Enjoy your last day tomorrow! Hope you get some nice pressies too :D

QUOTE]

I had high fluid levels about 8 weeks ago so was signed off work for 4 weeks, the levels stabilised but today they had risen again. They've told me to keep an eye out for signs of pre-term labour but they said that last time. They don't seem too concerned as they don't want to see me for another 2 weeks.
I'm hoping that I don't have to go back to work at all, but I think only a lottery win will save me!!
What are they doing about your fluid levels?

I am going back for a scan tomorrow, a week on from last scan, for them to measure the fluid levels again. The consultant was a bit aloof about it really - the sonographer had written on the scan notes about the 'significant drop' but the consultant said that even though they'd dropped from middle range to teensy bit above the bottom of range amount, that as it was still within the range "it was nothing to worry about, better to have too little than too high, but we'll check again next week" but then went on to stress how important it was for me to go and get checked out if at any point "things feel weird" so I'm just keen to get the scan done and know what's going on.

It must be a good sign that they don't need to see you for two weeks, though if you were concerned it wouldn't be very nice to have to wait. It's a lotto win needed here too for me to not have to go back, I'm not holding my breath

Hope your scan goes well tomorrow.

I think part of the problem today was that it wasn't my normal consultant doing the scan. Normally he just looks at the screen and estimates how much fluid is there but the woman doing it today actually measured it. Plus the baby could have changed position and therefore the fluid amounts could be different.
My midwife measured my fundal height last week and today the doctor measured it and it was smaller than last week, but again colud be down to different people measuring me.
She did a growth scan today and baby is within normal range so they aren't concerned about that.
I didn't really like the person doing the scan as she was fairly cold towards me and didn't tell me what she was doing or any results unless I asked.

Hmm it sounds like the woman today was a bit more thorough with the measuring, but it's awful when they're all surly and don't tell you what they're measuring. It's good and reassuring that the baby is measuring normal though :D

At my hospital I get scanned, they give me the results and I have to pass them on to the consultant so I always have a sneaky read before passing them on. Not that I understand really at least I know to ask!

Well the fluid levels are the same - no higher but no lower. The sonographer was quite positive as the placenta and blood supply are looking good.

The rest of the appointment left me really confused though - I was in the little room with about 5 of them (diabetes midwife, dietician, man who checks my sugar levels book and two randoms) and they were saying that since all looks good diabetes-wise, I should be able to carry on to 40 weeks and then be induced at 40+7 if no baby, but then the consultant came in and said though everything is fine, he'll have me back next week for another scan and diabetes clinic, and to test my cervix to see how things are and decide whether to induce me next week or the week after - ?? So am puzzled as to why he feels this is necessary. So I was a bit confused and stupid and didn't ask why, just clarified what he'd said.

At least your fluid levels have stabilised.

I'm the same as you when I see my consultant, I get so dumbfounded by something he says that I forget to find out why he's said what he's said. Maybe write yourself a list of questions to ask him next week about why he wants to induce you in a week or two.

If my consultant told me he wanted to induce me in the next few weeks, I think I'd hug him!!!

Writing a list is a really good idea actually, I will definitely do that. Feel a bit daft coming away from appointment letting hubby/family know what's going on then not being able to explain why

He did seem to think I should be grateful - joking about how I'm probably ready any time now etc, but actually I just started my ML and don't feel uncomfy and feel like there's still stuff to do (plus am still possibly in a bit of baby denial), so I don't really want her early - also I wouldn't mind so much if she comes and is ok straight away but no coming early then her having to go to SCBU or anything. These are things I will put on my list to ask next week!

Normally my OH comes with me so he asks questions but this week he couldn't come so I had no answers to anything for him!!

The doctor I saw this week told me to get my midwife to come out and check my BP tomorrow. I've been ringing for 2 days and she's still not called me back so doesn't look like I'll be getting that done tomorrow.

I'll be perfectly happy if my consultant tells me that he wants to induce me anytime after 37 weeks providing the baby will be ok and we'll be able to go home as soon as possible after the birth.

xxx

Watch this space, they might yet for you! That's shitty about your useless midwife, hope she gets back to you. She must fancy watching the wedding, lazy bitch

Still no call from my midwife. I've given up now so will see if the nurse can check it on Tuesday. I've got an appointment with her on Thursday anyway but think it's rude she's not even bothered to call me back.
